The virtual meeting of the West Hollywood City Council on April 6, with City Manager Paul Arevalo and Lauren Langer, the city’s attorney.

The West Hollywood City Council’s Monday meeting has been cancelled because of technical difficulties that would likely make have made it difficult for the public to get access to it.

An email message from City Clerk Yvonne Quarker said that “due to technical difficulties, the city is not able to broadcast or livestream the meeting and accommodate public participation in a way that is up to our normal standards; therefore we have cancelled Monday’s meeting.”

None of the items on Monday’s Council agenda were urgent, and they will be postponed to the Council’s Oct.  19 meeting. The full agenda can be accessed online.

The city’s Planning Commission had a similar issue on Thursday and had to cancel its meeting that evening.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City Council for months has been conducting its meetings virtually rather than in the City Council Chambers at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.  Other city board and commissions also have switched to virtual meetings.

The city’s website (www.weho.org/wehotv) is the only official viewing platform for its public meetings. But, as the City Clerk explains on each Council agenda, “to afford the public with a multitude of viewing options and in order to expand access to our public meetings, broadcasts are also available as a courtesy on local cable television and multiple streaming platforms.

However, because they are a third party and operate independently from the City of West Hollywood, their reliability cannot be guaranteed. Broadcasts of public meetings can be found on Spectrum Cable Television’s Channel 10 within West Hollywood’s borders. Digital streaming platform viewers can easily find programming by searching for ‘WeHoTV’ within the search functions of the following services. Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku and YouTube.

The foolishness of virtual meetings is not only ridicules but hard to fallow. There are seven positions where the five City Council members sit plus the positions where the City Manager sit and the City Attorney. The City Manager and City Attorney can sit anywhere and make their presentations when needed. As far as the public is concerned, limit the number persons in each row and skip rows that are off limits. This is just another example of poor thinking and lack of imagination.

West Hollywood City Hall is a spending machine. They can’t pull together online media that works. Shows you how poorly WEHO is run and managed.

It’s time for the State, FBI or DOJ to take a look at City Hall which is managed by some dude living in Pasadena. Why doesn’t the city start laying off people now. Soon, there won’t be any be hotel tax to pay their salaries.
