With COVID-19 cases rising as the U.S. enters a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic and some people are still resisting the idea of wearing face masks to protect themselves, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is rolling out a new public awareness advertising campaign.

The #DontShareAir campaign will be displayed on billboards and at transit stops in 16 cities across the nation, including Los Angeles. The message will be one reminding people about how easily the coronavirus can spread.

“We want to strongly encourage the general public to get back to basics and remind people that masks and social distancing are an effective, inexpensive—and often free—prevention tool,” said Michael Weinstein, President of AHF.

Looking like a modernist art painting, the #DontShareAir campaign features stylized graphic silhouettes of two people facing each other. Thousands of droplets appear to come out of the mouth of one onto the face of the other, thus suggesting spread of the coronavirus.

The purpose of the campaign is to reinforce public health messages about wearing masks and social distancing said Weinstein, something especially needed as we approach winter months.

In Los Angeles County, some 330,000 people have been infected with the coronavirus since the pandemic began and 7, 221 people have died, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Nationwide, some 10.6 million people have been infected and 243,000 people have died.

The #DontShareAir billboards are going up now and should be displayed until at least late January. In Los Angeles, the billboards are on display at the Hollywood and Highland intersection, the Sunset and Van Ness intersection and the Overland and Palms intersection.

The billboards will be in 15 other cities in 10 states:

  • Florida (Ft Lauderdale, Orlando, Pensacola, South Beach/Miami and St. Petersburg)
  • Georgia (Atlanta)
  • Illinois (Chicago)
  • Louisiana (Baton Rouge)
  • Maryland (Baltimore)
  • Mississippi (Jackson)
  • Ohio (Cleveland and Columbus)
  • Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)
  • Texas (Dallas)
  • Washington (Seattle).

Keep your guard up WeHo! Some sobering numbers: West Hollywood’s new case numbers have been going up by double digits recently- previously usually single digit increase. At least one more WeHo resident sadly recently lost their life to COVID-19. 1 in 40 Californians (1,000,000) have now tested positive. And by some estimates the number that have had it without being tested could be 10x that! Per the Los Angeles Times, we now have more cases in the U.S. IN A DAY than China has had IN TOTAL. The average daily case count in the U.S. has now roughly tripled from… Read more »
