West Hollywood’s Design District has long been known as a destination to shop for home décor items. In case there was any doubt, Architectural Digest just listed two WeHo streets among the best streets for shopping home décor in the nation.
In an article titled “20 of the Best Home Décor Shopping Streets in America,” Architectural Digest lists Melrose Avenue near the Pacific Design Center as one of the best streets to show for contemporary home décor items.
It lists La Cienega Boulevard just north of Melrose as one of the best streets to shop for antiques.
Technically that stretch of La Cienega is in Los Angeles, just a few dozen feet from the West Hollywood border, but many people assume that part of La Cienega is within West Hollywood.
The article itself has its own difficulties with the proper WeHo borders as it lists the section of Melrose that it is honoring as being in Los Angeles, while still getting the name of the West Hollywood Design District correct.
Nonetheless, the brief write-up includes this about Melrose, “The PDC itself is home to a collection of design showrooms for textiles, flooring, and furniture, ranging from the ultra-luxe to the more casual. Elsewhere in the district, there are showrooms for brands ranging from Kelly Wearstler to Porcelanosa and Blu Dot.”
As for La Cienega, the write-up says, “Sprinkled between the contemporary shops are antique stores peddling European furniture from all periods, as well as midcentury modern gems.”
For the article’s contemporary design section, Melrose joins other streets well known for home décor, including Greene Street in New York City, Old Katy Road in Houston and 14th Street NW in Washington DC.
For the article’s antiques section, La Cienega joins other well-known streets for antiquing, including Magazine Street in New Orleans, Miami Circle Road in Atlanta and King Street in Charleston, SC.
To the point and interesting post.
