LA County Shatters Record for Number of People Hospitalized with COVID-19 on Wednesday

A day after Los Angeles County broke records for the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19, the county broke the record again on Wednesday.

Currently, there are 2,439 people hospitalized with COVID-19, surpassing Tuesday’s high of 2,316 people.

Of the 2,439 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized, 24% of these people are in the ICU. The average daily number of people hospitalized has increased 105% in just two weeks. On Nov. 18, there were 1,188 people hospitalized.

The LA County Department of Public Health reported 40 new deaths and 5,987 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Since early November, average daily cases have increased by 225%.

LA County’s cumulative death toll now stands at 7,740 people. The total number of people in the county who have tested positive since the pandemic began now stands at 414,185 cases.

The county’s daily test positivity rate has also increased significantly and now is 13.0%. The test positivity rate was 3.9% on November 1.

Increased COVID-19 transmission has a cascading impact in certain populations. Weekly cases among healthcare workers increased 71% since the first week of November. Weekly new outbreaks at worksites increased 172% since early November. Weekly new cases among people who are residing in skilled nursing facilities increased 89% since early November. Cases at schools, both among staff and students, increased 224% since early November.

In West Hollywood, eight more people tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the city’s cumulative total to 955 cases. The number of deaths in the city remains unchanged at nine.

  • Beverly Hills – 10 new cases for a total of 1,019 cases.
  • Culver City – 11 new cases for a total of 659 cases.
  • Hollywood – 26 new cases for a total of 1,972 cases.
  • Melrose neighborhood – 33 new cases for a total of 2,936 cases.
  • Miracle Mile – 4 new cases for a total of 314 cases.
  • Park La Brea – 3 new cases for a total of 196 cases.
  • Santa Monica – 21 new cases for a total of 1,537 cases.

I’d say his attempt at overturning the election is scary, but it’s just embarrassing at this point. Sad.
