It’s a Winter Wonderland off Sunset Boulevard.

For the next 12 days, the hillside behind the Pink Dot on Sunset Boulevard at La Cienega Boulevard will be have a wintery holiday appearance complete with Christmas trees, lights, a giant snow globe, a snow covered hill and even a daily snowfall.

It’s all part of a promotion for an HBO Max streaming service airing of their “12 Dates of Christmas” reality dating series. The “12 Dates of Christmas” follows thee singles – a straight man, a straight woman and a gay man – as they go on dates with other suitors, looking for someone to bring home for the holidays.

This Winter Wonderland is NOT a site which residents can wander through. It’s on a hillside behind a construction site that has a plywood barrier in front.

Residents will have to enjoy it from the sidewalk. Plenty of passersby were doing just that on Saturday as they watched the crew flock the side of the hill in fake snow and put up Christmas trees.

HBO Max has set up a spot on the sidewalk for selfies with the giant inflatable snow globe in the background.

Every day between 2 and 5 p.m., they’ll have the snow machine operating to create a daily snowfall.

The Winter Wonderland officially starts today and runs through Dec. 24.

The hillside is the same one that caught fire early on Wednesday morning. A representative of the crew putting up the decorations reported that fire was accidentally started by a homeless person who had started the fire to cook something/stay warm and it got out of control.

UPDATE: Lt. William Moulder of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station confirmed at Monday’s Public Safety Commission meeting that the fire was caused by a homeless person trying to stay warm.

Good idea. Another way to offer weho residents another tempting way to get exposed to the Corona Virus.

ALSO all the non weho people coming with their potential to spread COVID.

BAD BAD IDEA AND EXECUTION

Anything West Hollywood can do to stay relevant and in the minds of people is a good thing. The “crew” blaming a homeless person for the fire is really nasty. It should be investigated. Can you imagine the bad publicity HBO/MAX would get for accidently starting a fire while trying to set up a “snow scene”? They were not going to let that happen. It’s easier to blame a homeless person. This is something Hank Scott would have really looked into to get to the truth.

The update to the article adds confirmation from LASD that the fire was in fact caused by a homeless person.

Yep, seems like shooting at an actual winter wonderland would’ve made more sense. Guess they wanted the PR that comes from doing it on the Sunset Strip.

THIS is a Winter Wonderland?? I think not. HBO could have done something more elaborate & convincing than this, me thinks.
