Authorities asked for the public’s help Wednesday in identifying a gunman who opened fire in a shopping area in the Fairfax District, killing one man and leaving another hospitalized in serious condition.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday near Melrose and Stanley avenues, and a motive is unknown, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Melrose and Stanley intersection is a few blocks south of the West Hollywood border, which is at Willoughby Avenue in that part of town.

The man killed was Davonte Clepper, 28. He died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. His city of residence was not known.

The survivor, in his 20s, was hospitalized. His name was withheld.

According to the police, the victims were standing near the intersection when a man in his 20s approached them on foot, fired multiple times, and ran off. A Starbucks, an Urban Outfitters store and several other businesses are located in the vicinity.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at 213-382-9470, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.

He wont prosecute because LAPD were overstretched even before COVID, are in the process of being defunded, and even in the good old halcyon days of 2019, the clearance rate of black on black homicide was ~35% – which is to say there wont be a suspect to prosecute. Snitches get stitches, is a powerful and effective motivator as such.
