Los Angeles County is fast approaching having over 7,000 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and crossing the three-quarter of a million people infected since the pandemic began. Likely both numbers will be surpassed on Tuesday.
As of Monday, there are 6,914 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County. That’s 99 more people than were hospitalized on Sunday. That also sets a new record for hospitalizations in the county, beating the previous record of 6,815 which was set on Sunday.
Of those hospitalized, 20% are in the ICU. That translates to about 1,383 people in the ICU.
The 11-county Southern California region’s ICU bed availability remains at 0%. It first dropped to 0% on Dec. 17 and has remained there ever since.
Los Angeles County reported 13,661 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. However, Monday numbers are typically lower due to reporting lags over the weekend. The county now has a cumulative total of 733,325 cases since the pandemic began in March.
County health officials announced 73 more people dead from the coronavirus on Monday, pushing the county’s cumulative death toll to 9,555 people. However, health officials say there has been a lag in reporting deaths due to the Christmas holiday and expect a significantly larger number in the next day or two.
To date, more than 4.63 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an average of 15% are testing positive.
West Hollywood recorded 12 new cases on Monday, for a cumulative total of 1,368 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total remains at 11 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 24 new cases for a total of 1,554 cases and a total of 14 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 4 new cases for a total of 579 cases and a total of 26 deaths.
- Culver City – 24 new cases for a total of 1,186 cases and a total of 38 deaths.
- Hollywood – 65 new cases for a total of 3,176 cases and 1 new death for a total of 26 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 94 new cases total of 4,763 cases and 1 new death for a total of 96 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 8 new cases for a total of 523 cases and a total of 6 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 6 new cases for a total of 333 cases and a total of 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 54 new cases for a total of 2,619 cases and a total of 60 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
