As Los Angeles County continues to be the epicenter of the pandemic, hospitalizations continue to break records, while new cases and new deaths come close to breaking records on Thursday.
There are 8,098 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Thursday, a record-breaking number. That’s 75 more people than were hospitalized on Wednesday when there were 8,023 people hospitalized, a number that was record-breaking at the time.
Of those hospitalized, 20% are in the ICU. That translates to about 1,620 people in the ICU.
The county Department of Health Services reported Thursday a total of 34 adult ICU beds were available in the county. There were 552 total non-ICU hospital beds available in a county of 10 million people.
County health officials announced 218 more people dead from the coronavirus on Thursday. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 11,545 people.
On Thursday, Los Angeles County reported 19,719 new COVID-19 cases. The county now has a cumulative total of 871,404 cases since the pandemic began in March.
To date, more than 4.89 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 17% are testing positive, but the positivity rate for Thursday was 20.4%.
West Hollywood recorded 10 new cases on Thursday, for a cumulative total of 1,563 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total remains at 16 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 45 new cases for a total of 1,807 cases and no new deaths for a total of 15 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 26 new cases for a total of 683 cases and no new deaths for a total of 31 deaths.
- Culver City – 32 new cases for a total of 1,452 cases and 1 new death for a total of 46 deaths.
- Hollywood – 71 new cases for a total of 3,657 cases and no new deaths for a total of 32 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 123 new cases total of 5,585 cases and 4 new deaths for a total of 116 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 16 new cases for a total of 613 cases and no new deaths for a total of 7 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 11 new cases for a total of 400 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 67 new cases for a total of 3,056 cases and 3 new deaths for a total of 79 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
