Even though COVID deaths continue to near-record high levels in Los Angeles County, new cases and hospitalizations continue to level off on Friday.
Health officials are still warning that these COVID improvements do not mean the region has emerged from the surge that began in November. Meanwhile, health officials urge patience for getting COVID vaccinations as supplies are short and appointments are hard to get thanks to an overburden reservation system.
County health officials announced 256 more COVID-related deaths on Friday, the third day in a row with more than 250 deaths. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 14,849people.
The highest number of deaths in a single day was 318 deaths, which was recorded on Jan. 8.
There are 7,073 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Friday. That’s 190 fewer people than were hospitalized on Thursday when there were 7,263 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
According to the state, there are currently 1,687 people are in the ICU with COVID in LA County.
LA County reported 9,277 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,054,802 cases since the pandemic began in March.
To date, more than 5.33 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 19% are testing positive.
West Hollywood recorded 19 new cases for a cumulative total of 1,822 cases since the pandemic began. The city had two new deaths; the cumulative death total is 23 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 13 new cases for a total of 2,127 cases and 1 new death for a total of 21 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 9 new cases for a total of 794 cases and no new deaths for a total of 36 deaths.
- Culver City – 12 new cases for a total of 1,791 cases and 2 new deaths for a total of 64 deaths.
- Hollywood – 43 new cases for a total of 4,469 cases and 1 new death for a total of 43 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 64 new cases total of 6,795 cases and 2 new deaths for a total of 150 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 5 new cases for a total of 752 cases and no new deaths for a total of 9 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 4 new cases for a total of 478 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 39 new cases for a total of 3,709 cases and 3 new deaths for a total of 106 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
