COVID Deaths Remain at Record High Levels, but Other Numbers Stabilizing on Wednesday

COVID deaths in Los Angeles County remain at record high levels on Wednesday, but other numbers continue stabilizing as businesses begin reopening now that the regional stay-at-home lockdown order has been lifted.

County health officials announced 307 more COVID-related deaths on Wednesday. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 15,897  people.

Wednesday’s 307 deaths is the second highest number of COVID deaths in a single day the county has ever recorded. The highest number of deaths in a single day was recorded on Jan. 8 with 318 deaths. The third highest day occurred on Tuesday with 291 deaths.

There are 6,213 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Wednesday. That’s 94 fewer people than were hospitalized on Tuesday when there were 6,307  people hospitalized.

The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098  people hospitalized.

The state reported there are 1,542 people in the ICU.    

LA County reported 6,917 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,091,712 cases since the pandemic began in March.

To date, more than 5.43 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 19% are testing positive.

West Hollywood recorded 17 new cases for a cumulative total of 1,891 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total is 24 deaths.

Below are the numbers for areas near West Hollywood:

  • Beverly Hills – 12 new cases for a total of 2,193 cases and no new deaths for a total of 21 deaths.
  • Carthay neighborhood – 5 new cases for a total of 812 cases and no new deaths for a total of 41 deaths.
  • Culver City – 5 new cases for a total of 1,866 cases and 1 new death for a total of 67 deaths.
  • Hollywood – 35 new cases for a total of 4,675 cases and 1 new death for a total of 48 deaths.
  • Melrose neighborhood – 45 new cases total of 7,051 cases and 6 new deaths for a total of 160 deaths.
  • Miracle Mile – 7 new cases for a total of 788 cases and 1 new death for a total of 11 deaths.
  • Park La Brea – 1 new case for a total of 495 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
  • Santa Monica – 26 new cases for a total of 3,841 cases and 4 new deaths for a total of 113 deaths.

The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border. 

The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
