Hospitalizations in Los Angeles County continue falling but deaths remain high on Saturday. However, the county is making slow but steady progress in getting people vaccinated.
More than 1.05 million vaccine doses have been administered in the county to date, including just more than 104,000 second doses, according to Dr. Paul Simon, chief science officer for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
That means about 11% of the county’s population of people aged 16 and older has received the first dose of the vaccine, while 2.6% have been fully vaccinated with both doses.
There are 4,607 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Saturday. That’s 189 fewer people than were hospitalized on Friday when there were 4,796 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
There are approximately 1,170 people in the ICU.
County health officials announced 193 more COVID-related deaths on Saturday. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 17,955 people.
The highest number of COVID deaths in a single day in the county is 318 deaths, recorded on Jan. 8, while the second highest is 316 deaths, which occurred on Jan. 30.
LA County reported 4,860 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,143,422 cases since the pandemic began in March.
To date, more than 5.59 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 19% are testing positive.
West Hollywood recorded 12 new cases for a cumulative total of 1,993 cases since the pandemic began. The city had no new deaths; the cumulative death total is 25 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 15 new cases for a total of 2,308 cases and 1 new death for a total of 24 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 4 new case for a total of 845 cases and no new deaths for a total of 48 deaths.
- Century City – 2 new cases for a total of 541 cases and no new deaths for a total of 11 deaths.
- Culver City – 16 new cases for a total of 1,968 cases and 1 new death for a total of 71 deaths.
- Hollywood – 24 new cases for a total of 4,919 cases and no new deaths for a total of 53 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 38 new cases total of 7,424 cases and 2 new deaths for a total of 170 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 2 new cases for a total of 833 cases and no new deaths for a total of 14 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 1 new case for a total of 527 cases and no new deaths for a total of 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 20 new cases for a total of 4,030 cases and 1 new death for a total of 124 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
