Hospitalizations related to COVID-19 in Los Angeles County continue to fall on Wednesday, as do deaths and new cases. But officials worry there is another surge coming in a few weeks connected to infections from Super Bowl parties and from more contagious strains of the virus.
There are 3,772 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County on Wednesday according to that state. That’s 201 fewer people than were hospitalized on Tuesday when there were 3,973 people hospitalized.
The county’s all-time high for COVID hospitalizations occurred on Jan. 7, when there were 8,098 people hospitalized.
The state reported there are currently 1,105 people in the ICU.
County health officials announced 141 more COVID-related deaths on Wednesday. The county’s cumulative death toll is now 18,500 people.
The highest number of COVID deaths in a single day in the county is 318 deaths, recorded on Jan. 8, while the second highest is 316 deaths, which occurred on Jan. 30.
LA County reported 3,434 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. The county now has a cumulative total of 1,155,309 cases since the pandemic began in March.
To date, more than 5.64 million people have been tested for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. Of those tested, an overall average of 19% are testing positive.
West Hollywood recorded 7 new cases for a cumulative total of 2,024 cases since the pandemic began. The city had one new death; the cumulative death total is 26 deaths.

- Beverly Hills – 6 new cases for a total of 2,333 cases and 25 deaths.
- Carthay neighborhood – 1 new case for a total of 847 cases and 49 deaths.
- Century City – no new cases for a total of 546 cases and 12 deaths.
- Culver City – 6 new cases for a total of 1,989 cases and 74 deaths.
- Hollywood – 11 new cases for a total of 4,973 cases and 55 deaths.
- Melrose neighborhood – 17 new cases total of 7,498 cases and 175 deaths.
- Miracle Mile – 4 new cases for a total of 852 cases and 14 deaths.
- Park La Brea – 2 new cases for a total of 531 cases and 1 death.
- Santa Monica – 19 new cases for a total of 4,095 cases and 127 deaths.
The Carthay neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles between the Beverly Hills city limits and Fairfax Avenue, with Beverly Boulevard as the northern border and Wilshire Boulevard as the southern border.
The Melrose neighborhood incorporates the areas of Los Angeles east of La Cienega and west of Vermont Avenue, between Santa Monica Boulevard on the north and Beverly Boulevard on the south.
