Scams are nothing new, but new scams keep popping up all the time. Some of the most recent scams involve the COVID-19 vaccine and/or federal stimulus payments.

The City of West Hollywood is hosting a virtual seminar to discuss some of these new scams on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The city is joining with Assemblymember Richard Bloom’s office and the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs Contractors State License Board to discuss these latest scams.

“Senior Scam Stoppers” will feature expert speakers to discuss how to recognize these scams and what to do if you fall victim to one of them.

“Coronavirus scams seem to be spreading as quickly as the virus itself,” said Mayor Lindsey  Horvath. “The City of West Hollywood wants to be certain that all members of our community get through this challenging time without falling victim to scams. Informing older adults about how to protect themselves from scammers is an important part of our work during this pandemic and beyond.”

The seminar is free and open to everyone, but advance registration  is required. To sign up, go to this link: https://caasm.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_1ShH5OugRIq6oisUAdPf2w.

A link to view the event and the number for those who wish to listen by phone will be emailed to registered participants before the start of the seminar. The event will also be livestreamed and archived for future viewing on the City’s YouTube channel at  www.youtube.com/wehotv.
