Long-Awaited Pendry West Hollywood Hotel Opens to Guests

West Hollywood’s newest hotel has finally opened. The long-awaited Pendry West Hollywood cut the ribbon to officially open to guests on Friday morning.

Located at 8430 Sunset Blvd., at Olive Drive, the luxury hotel features 112 guest rooms and 37 suites, two world-class restaurants by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, a multi-purpose live entertainment venue, a spa, screening room and private membership club. Also included on the property in a separate building are the Pendry Residences with 40 luxury condominiums.

Owned by Montage Hotels and Resorts, West Hollywood is the third location for the Pendry boutique luxury hotel brand (the other two are in San Diego and Baltimore). Several more Pendry locations are scheduled to open around the country in the next year. Guest rooms start at $400 a night while suites range from $600 to $3,000 a night.

Encompassing the spot where the House of Blues once sat, the Pendry will likely become a destination for many thanks to the two Wolfgang Puck restaurants:

• Ospero – Located at street-level on Sunset Boulevard and Olive Drive, Ospero is a casual European style café featuring classic salads, handmade pastas, vegan dishes and Wolfgang Puck house-made pizzas.
• Merois – Located on the rooftop beside the pool, Merois is an upscale restaurant with a mix of  Japanese, Southeast Asian and French/California cuisine. It will initially be open by reservation only for guests and residents of Pendry West Hollywood, as well as members of The Britely private membership club.

“Sunset Boulevard has always held a special place in my heart,” Wolfgang Puck said of his two new restaurants. “I’m so excited to be back with these new concepts.”

Ospero café and the yet-to-be-named 100-seat live entertainment venue both have their entrances on Sunset, two levels above the lobby. Since the Pendry is built on the side of a hill, the main entrance is accessible off Olive Drive. That’s where guests will find the lobby, ballroom, main hotel bar and porte cochère.

In addition to the main Bar Pendry off the lobby, the Pendry also features a rooftop bar adjacent to Merois restaurant. Additionally, the building includes a private-membership club, The Britely, which has its main area off the lobby but also a special rooftop area on the western end of the building.   

The hotel also features a spa and fitness center on the second floor, while a lounge one floor below the lobby includes a two-lane bowling alley.

The Pendry hosts an extensive art collection throughout the building featuring works by wide number of emerging artists, many of them Los Angeles based.

The hotel also has two sculptures which will likely leave tongues wagging. Greeting guests upon arrival at the main entrance are:

• “Sunset Jewel,” located at the porte cochère, this is a 23-foot-tall golden tree sculpture with leaves made of mother of pearl, created by landscape artists Andy Cao (based in Los Angeles) and Xavier Perrot (based in Paris).
• Icosahedron, located in the main lobby, this is a 20-sided prism-like steel and glass sculpture by British artist Anthony James, who is based in Los Angeles.    

Even if West Hollywood residents don’t stay in the hotel, the Pendry likely will become a destination just to view the artwork. Hotel management said they may even host special guided tours of the artwork.

 “We’re just so excited to be a part of West Hollywood and be part of this great group of hotels in this area. We’re hoping to bring something new and fresh and a great sense of place with Pendry West Hollywood,” manager David Hoffman told WEHOville. “I think what you’ll find is the programming under this roof is pretty spectacular and we hope the guests enjoy it as much as we do.”
