WATCH: D’Amico exits, Erickson throws shade, Horvath refuses to table item.

At Monday night’s nearly 7-hour-long council meeting, Councilmember John Erickson bristled as Councilmember John D’Amico made an early exit after Council chose not to table a contentious item on job protection for hospitality workers. D’Amico requested this item to be tabled according to the rules of city meetings at 10pm. On the top of the each agenda is this note:

Note: Any agenda item which has not been initiated by 11:00 p.m. may be continued to a subsequent City Council meeting.

D’Amico and Councilmember Lauren Meister had pushed to move discussion of the agenda item back until next council meeting. Mayor Horvath opted to ignore both the council members request and then was joined by Council members Erickson and Shyne. Horvath, Erickson and Shyne are the Union’s lock on the city council. In addition it should be noted that Mayor Horvath did move 3 items to the next meeting. Those items were 4C, 2J and 2M. But did not move the item she brought forward regarding Union workers. Mayor Horvath has announced her run for county supervisor and is seeking labor support in her race.

The moment came about 5 1/2 hours into the meeting.

“Thank you Mayor, I’m going to go,” D’Amico said, waving goodbye before logging off the Zoom meeting. “I appreciate everyone’s hard work.”

Erickson immediately took issue ignoring the rules and D’Amico’s earlier request.

“I was elected to serve and represent the city,” Erickson said. “I understand he has different priorities, but I’m here until whenever we gotta go.”

Also, do you keyboard warriors realize that you need 20% of registered voters to sign up for a recall? That is about the same percentage as those who vote. And how many of you who are calling for a recall actually voted, or live in the City of West Hollywood? Please, raise your hands. We just had an election. And one semi-catty comment from one recently-elected Councilmember is not enough to get 20% of the constituents of the city to sign a petition for his recall. They made up at Monday’s Council meeting, and we are back in business. People… Read more »

I watched this meeting and Erickson’s comments were completely catty and out of line. D’Amico asked to exit long before he actually did and gave fair warning. Regardless, these meetings have become exhaustingly tedious, long and boring. The mayor Horvath cannot run a meeting and it shows. But she does a great job promoting herself outside our city limits.

It was mentioned in these comments that Erickson was elitist and condescending. I warned everyone NOT to vote for him but here’s what we got. It’s going to be a LONG four years.

It should be noted that this article was written by someone who lost to the CMs in question.

Also, watch the meeting. Don’t just take Larry’s word for it. They still haven’t filled several at-large commissioner seats and couldn’t once CM Damico left.

Before you make those sorts of insinuations, please note that the Beverly Press covered this item and focused on Erickson’s comments. Obviously the reporter from the Beverly Press thought the comments were unusual and newsworthy. I fully endorsed the item in support of the Hotel workers and there were reasons that it was time sensitive, even if they were not fully articulated by the supporters of the item. There are times when you cannot always accommodate a request to table. But the self serving comments at the expense of another council member were ungracious. John D’Amico has more that put… Read more »

I read the Beverly Press article. To say that the reporter “focused” on Erickson’s comments is a bit of a stretch.

The reality is that this publication was bought by someone who lost a city council race and won’t let go of it. Every article written here should be read with that viewpoint in mind.

Councilmember Erickson has been asked to write an op-ed and he declined. He has also been asked to highlight his new commissioners and has yet to respond. To your point Sepi’s press release has been included and her op-ed and two of her new commissioners are writing their op-eds. Please don’t deflect on me for reporting on his swipe at D’Amico. Erickson needs to take responsibility for his own actions and attacks on D’Amico or Meister or Shyne for that matter.

I believe we should start a recall on Erickson, & Sepi, both have proved nothing for being elected, they have just provided the stupid reason for thinking certain citizens could be great. Ha. For Horvath, my money will be given to Bloom. Cheers

Seriously? What would warrant a recall? A recall should be for serious misconduct, or illegal conduct. So Erickson said something a tiny bit catty, big deal. He deserves a recall for that?

And do you know how the recall process works? Good luck. Maybe you should get from behind your keyboard and start working on that one.

Can we include Horvath, Shyne, and Erickson on the Newsom recall ballot?

You could, if maybe you actually looked up how the West Hollywood recall process works.

Horvath, Shyne, and Erikson exemplify the future destruction of the City of West Hollywood into a woke community of University and Gen Z moral failures.

I’m soo sick that I voted for Erickson. He has been a big disappointment. Incredibly elitist and condescending. Sepi and Horvath are also big disappointments. They have eyes on higher office and don’t care about serving their constitutes.

Some choices seem logical when you mark the ballot. I too am suffering “marker’s regret”.

Wow! John Erickson’s comment is so inappropriate, but typical of career non-profit workers. Not everyone has the luxury of getting up whenever they happen to wake up. He certainly wouldn’t last a single day in d’Amico’s shoes. Kudos to d’Amico for being a responsible adult (can’t believe I’m saying this). This is true activism, by proudly representing the LGBTQIA community as a hard working professional.

Horvath, Erickson and Shyne are not serious people.

The only time they are serious is
when pushing their WOKE agenda to the choir!

But does anyone else really care what they think or say?

Makes you ask: Who are they, who were they, who do they want to be?

Faux Woke Agenda. It previously was called posturing, buzz words with no substance, sizzle with no steak. Following around a previous CC council member and learning the technique of scheduling and soundbites does not equal an individual of substance. Hiding behind a non profit with no original ideas and authenticity leaves the non-profit with no substance as well. Sad.

Suggestion: Worry less about “Woke” – it’s a word we borrowed and don’t have a clue. The urge to vote against Duran and Heilman was so strong had Donald Duck been on the ballot he would gotten the majority ofvotes. How about acting like adults and lose the newspeak, mind the protocol and stop using the City as a platform for hours of personal rhetoric. It’s getting back to the “Little Rascals Are having show”.

I’m still dumbfounded by how he got elected. His demeanor is immature and comments/agenda items are mostly self-serving but always shrouded in what he claims is the desire of the community.

If you ask him it’s because of his campaign platform and what it spoke to. In reality, with the local WeHo election moved to the General Election date, we had a lot more residents who voted and many that I talked to voted for him because he was young and NOT Heilman or Duran. They didn’t know what he stood for..and so now we’re stuck with him for a few years. Hopefully people will better educate themselves on the local city candidates next time around. And yes, he’s very immature, has a holier than thou attitude and very self-serving.

If a New York con man can get elected, we shouldn’t be surprised that Mr. Erickson got voted in.

Efficiency and preparedness are emblematic of educated individuals, not only in academic subject matter but world consciousness. Since a city counsel presumably is run along quasi judicial practices, no judge or other judicial body would tolerate this behavior and likewise neither should the public. There are time clocks set on public comment, likewise the council members should demonstrate constraint. Suggestion would be for council members to make available an attendance record listing important meetings and events attended, a short descriptive if necessary posted with the agenda. Likewise grandstanding statements highlighting the aggrieved in various parts of the world with whom… Read more »
