Lt. Moulder: Cookies ‘needs to move out of the area’

At Monday night’s Public Safety Commission meeting, Lt. William Moulder from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department expressed his thoughts on marijuana dispensary Cookies.

“It does indeed need to move out of the area,” he told the Commission.

Commissioner Tod Hallman agreed: “It would be in everyone’s best interest if they relocated.”

Cookies sits just outside of the city limits (and jurisdiction) of West Hollywood, at 8360 Melrose in Los Angeles, but the shop’s clientele has been causing a headache for WeHo residents and law enforcements since at least last fall.

Moulder cited recent complaints from residents about Cookies customers parking illegally on Kings Road, loitering, smoking marijuana and causing disturbances around the premises. He also noted that Cookies’ own security team is no longer monitoring the area.

Last year, the City of West Hollywood officially requested that the City of Los Angeles revoke its temporary operating license and deny them a permanent license.

“The ball is in the City of L.A.’s court,” Moulder said, emphasizing that the Sheriff’s Department is coordinating with the City of L.A. and the L.A. City Attorney’s office to try and resolve the matter with the California Department of Cannabis. A meeting with Cookies’ security team is also in the works, he said.

The issue with Cookies is bigger than a weed shop. Many of us are pro-business and have supported many of Melrose businesses as being in the neighborhood. The previous tenants in the building actually had customers from the neighborhood. LA Juice, Ink restaurant , Xurro, we would frequent theses types of businesses and show support but NOBODY in this neighborhood goes to Cookies, they are not for serving the neighborhood.

High content THC eatables should be routinely given out FREE to angry white people, it would solve remedy many social problems and help them make new friends. It’s worked wonders on many people I’ve had problems with!🥴

How is this helpful Cy? Drugging people is not the answer especially when it’s arguably the problem.

What if I made that same statement about angry black people? I’m sure someone would point out that it is racist.

Can anyone explain to me WHY in the first place, this store is the store of choice for people coming from other neighborhoods (if that is the case as I have seen many people posting it is)? Would closing this location make people go to the next dispensary a few blocks away? I am all for moving it as I live in the area, but I think the melrose culture in general that comes for shopping or cruising or whatever it is that happens here end up at cookies. Again, would moving this not just move everyone to the next… Read more »

It’s simply a classic example of an unrealistic white bourgeoisie fear of people NOT like them with the idea that the entire world revolves around them and, everyone else exists for their single purpose in life to get them ❗

Such absolute nonsense! You are obviously a plant from Cookies on here. Anyone who lives in the area knows 100%, that this is not the case. Cookies is horrendous, has caused and continues to cause a multitude of dangerous problems that did not exist before it opened on that corner and all this has nothing to do with fear of any particular kind of people at all. The surrounding neighborhood is extremely diverse and they ALL want Cookies gone! Cookies being open has always been a direct threat to all residents! The evidence and facts are all public. You sound… Read more »

If ONLY I were so important that Cookies would seek me out as a plant ❗ 🤣 A good part of the decade of posting comments on the WEHOville won’t get me nominated for a Pulitzer anytime soon and, before that I was also known as the “swipe left guy” on Tinder. If anything Cookies would be better served by posting a well done op-ed in the WEHOville directly addressing the community’s concerns and overcoming their objections.

Cookie’s is worried because they they know that thier days are numbered. And it makes perfect sense to have a plant on here and is not that tough for them to do so. You could also simply just be a fan of Cookies. And what you’re suggesting about an op-ed piece, that won’t help at all, as Cookie’s refuses to acknowledge publicly, is the fact that their patron’s, their bread and butter, who Cookie’s specifically and purposefully create thier products for (like bullet proof clothing) and marketing directly to, are indeed criminals, wanna-be criminals and bad people. And that these… Read more »

For some odd reason I’m dignifying the last post with a response. 🤷🏽‍♂️ “Bullet proof clothing ⁉ ” being marketed to “criminals, wanna-be criminals and, bad peopleREALLY ❓ From Cookies website I did find some clothing but, absolutely NO tactical gear or body armor. The civilian sector of the military industrial complex does heavily market such items to people with serious criminal backgrounds up to and including racist hate crimes and domestic terrorism but, people like Trump insist white nationalists are “very fine people.”

This location is abutting homes, people are living with their family and children here. When Cookies tries to resolve the problem with security guards on the block standing in front of homes it felt like a business setting in front of apartment buildings. This is not part of the “melrose culture” you are talking about , in fact it is a great deterrence to anybody in this immediate neighborhood.

Well we need stricter and more specific zoning ordinances as opposed to the “business knows best” approach.

“Cookies” the Southern Gateway to West Hollywood with Melrose as the Red Carpet. West Hollywood sent out the invitation and they came. Enjoy your Cannabis Dreams. Soon one will be able to buy the scent gift wrapped in a fancy box.

I’m sure “Cookies” wishes they could be that important but, people’s “Cannabis Dreams” are easily accessible just about anywhere throughout the Los Angeles Metro area. 🤣

I remember when Eddie Nash’s chicken bar, the Odyessy1 (formerly the After Dark, for those even older than me) on Beverly and La Brea, which functioned as a retail outlet for Nash’s coke and pill business, caused the same problems. Despite the “legalization” of weed, smoking in public and engaging in the same sort of shenanigans that happened on the residential streets near the Odyessy (public urination, defecation, sidewalk sex and drug use) are illegal and are both a public nuisance and a severe safety concern. Sorry, stoners, but not everyone sees legalization as a GOOD thing.

I have seen you comment over the years sir and you appear to be losing it. West Hollywood RESIDENTS almost all agree Cookies needs to go. Pick a different hill to die on, one that causes less of a public safety issue.

Oh I don’t doubt that many WeHo “RESIDENTS” have a Tweety Bird reaction to Sylvester the Cat going on with Cookies but, their concerns have subjected to a great deal of magnification. One of Cookies reps and rapper Berner has attempted to address many of the issues and, I asked him to post here. I even held the hand of a transgirl and, we met some people to show her that there is nothing really to be concerned about. Maybe I just need to get my bullhorn📢 and have a giant WeHo/Cookies meet & greet❓

Alcohol drinkers and tobacco smokers also justify their addiction harder than abusers of hard drugs like meth, heron and, cocaine because the adverse effects of their addiction are NOT as apparent to THEM especially in the short term.

Commissioner Tod Hallman and City of West Hollywood have spoken!

The people of West Hollywood and Los Angeles have spoken!

SO MANY HAVE SPOKEN!

WE ARE EXUASTED WITH THIS!

Please remove this horrendous excuse of a business, Cookies so we can all live our lives safely and soundly again! We are good, tax-paying citizens! We demand action now! Already!

I don’t feel safe in my neighborhood of 20 + years , the location of Cookies is the problem. It is directly bordering the residential neighborhood and the groups of people the store attracts flows into the residential neighborhood . The residential neighborhood should just be resigned to commercial with the amount of activity cookies brings into people’s homes and residences. The whole neighborhood and community has to suffer for a business to make money. The location of cookies is the issue , being directly located in a residential neighborhood . The security guards had an issue with the store… Read more »

Everyone who has been effected by Cookies being allowed to continue to operate with impunity knows Lt. Moulder and very much appreciates all of his continued wonderful work to help make our community safer, etc. Maybe someday you too will be affected by the serious and extremely dangerous issues that Cookies continues to cause as well (I hope for your sake not) and then you will have the pleasure of seeing Lt. Moulder’s GREAT work first hand and you too will give him a glowing review.

This store is not like any other dispensary! It is responsible not only for multiple robberies at gun point and the rise in crime in general in the surrounding neighborhood, but in West Hollywood and Los Angeles as a whole in general! It is a disgusting menace and if Councilmember Paul Koretz does not take action immediately and at the very least relocate this place, he will eventually have protestors outside of his home 24/7! This guy is a coward who couldn’t care less! He will care when protestors are protesting outside of his home which seems like the only… Read more »

I will just say again, Cy, your comments are preposterous, unintelligent and assinine! You really should stay away from public comment! You are completely emptyheaded, especially if you don’t understand the power of peaceful protest. You also, obviously, have not been paying attention to the events of this last year and history in general. You actually sound like you may just be a plant, maybe an employee of Cookies.

You feeling the need to SHOW photos of yourself at protests and the fact that you even took selfies of yourself AT protests is very telling about what kind of person that you actually are.
