LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The Los Angeles County Development Authority has extended the deadline to Dec. 31 for households to apply for elderly family public housing sites, officials said Wednesday.
Families eligible for the sites must have a head, co-head, spouse or sole member who is at least 62 years old. Each household can have multiple people above that age living together, or one or more seniors living with one or more live-in aids, LACDA said.
Applicants can apply to up to seven out of nine senior public housing developments:
● Carmelitos in Long Beach;
● Nueva Maravilla and Herbert Avenue in East Los Angeles;
● Francisquito Villa in La Puente;
● Whittier Manor in Whittier;
● West Knoll/Palm in West Hollywood;
● Marina Manor in Marina del Rey;
● Orchard Arms in Valencia;
● Foothill Villa in La Crescenta; and
● South Bay Gardens in Los Angeles.
Families can register for multiple sites, but if applicants are offered a unit in one site but don’t accept it, their name will be removed from all selected waiting lists, LACDA said. Officials urged people to only apply for sites they are willing to live in.
Smoking is prohibited on public housing grounds, as well as within units, at all sites except the South Bay Gardens development, which includes a designated smoking area.
Applicants will be selected from the list in order of admission preferences, then by date and time of registration.
The application period was scheduled to end on June 30, but people can now apply until 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 at lacda.org or by calling 626-586-1845.
