Personally, I have received the COVID vaccination, and I encourage others to become vaccinated. I also respect the individual rights of others to make decisions about their own bodies. Considering recent countywide directives being discussed related to mandatory vaccinations, under the threat of discipline or termination, I must state my belief this is a labor issue which must be worked out between the unions and the County Board of Supervisors.
As this issue is worked out by all involved parties, I want to reassure Department personnel NO ACTION will be imposed prior to completion of the meet and consult process.
Once this issue has been through the entire legal process, if there were ever policies regarding vaccination status which could result in discipline, the implementation of such policies would start from the top of the executive staff down. I look forward to seeing this issue resolved in a manner consistent with labor laws, the Constitution of the State of California, and the Constitution of the United States of America.
Remind the Sheriff of Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11 (1905) and the fact that U.S. has a well established precedent of vaccine mandates with Courts ruling in favor of public health over selfish individual liberties when they conflict with the overall wellbeing of others. A Case Western University Study finds more active-duty police officers died of COVID-19 starting in 2020 than ALL other causes combined ❗ Law Enforcement not to mention minorities, would be safer if officers went without firearms as opposed to COVID-19 vaccines.
Remember when vaccine passports were a conspiracy theory? Or the lab leak theory?Or multiple boosters a year for life to maintain your good “vaccine” status (needed for acces to grocery store, the doctors office, public transport..) Or natural immunity for recovered persons being more robust protection against mutations?
Maybe we should stop dismissing the people who have called this from day one. It’s not about public health, it’s about erecting a hyper surveillance state to compete with non-constitutional nations already using social credit system to “manage” populations and criminalize political dissent.
I pray for us all.

I heard on the news 50% of LAPD was UNVACCINATED. Now a similar mindset for the Sheriff’s Department in WEHO. No class of people need a vaccine more, FOR THEM SELVES & ALL THE PEOPLE THEY ENCOUNTER ON DUTY. (both ways. I’m not a fan of the Sheriff, but this is a failure on every level of government, I can’t blame him for anything here. A vaccine mandate should have been planned out long ago on the national, state and local levels with the idea in mind that enough people would not willingly get it. Very easy to see this as a possibility.
There should be a mandate to incarcerate people like you! People who make decisions for others!

It is not about individuals rights over their own body. Not at the expense of someone’s life. It should be mandated that all staff are vaccinated.
