WeHo Halloween Carnaval is cancelled again

The City of West Hollywood is reminding the community and the region that the City’s annual Halloween Carnaval has been cancelled for 2020 and for 2021 in accordance with protecting health and safety due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As background, the City of West Hollywood’s Halloween Carnaval was launched in 1987 and is rooted in the foundation of the City’s diverse culture and community. The event has grown year-by-year into an annual gathering of phenomenal costumes, entertainment, culture, and self-expression with a myriad of observers, revelers, exhibitionists, and performers.

At this time, the City of West Hollywood remains in a declared local emergency in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and is focused on efforts to protect public health and safety.

A fiscally sound decision on top of the fact that we are still in the midst of a pandemic. Too many do not wear masks indoors and with a still large unvaccinated population, the homeless issue which we have not yet addressed, not budgeting for it made sense. More needs to be done to vaccinate the 20-40 year olds that end up getting sick or making others sick. Looking at social media I am appalled at owners allowing so many indoors without masks. No social distancing and no proof of vaccination. I becoming numb to the sick and dead numbers… Read more »

This is a good thing. We do not need another “spreader event” to kill more people. Halloween will come again, someday. Reasonable Civilized people know in their heart this is the correct thing to do at this time. Let’s not be too selfish, NOT that ANYONE in WeHo would ever be selfish, and just plan for future events, when the ‘pandemic parade passes by’. Stay safe.

Over the years I have seen less and less people in costume, and more quasi-homophobic lookeloos, from WAY outside the community, treating the carnival as a movable “freak show.” Basic safety has also been a major, and unaddressed issue. We were pushed and pinned against metal railings at the Bus Terminal by a rowdy, mostly drunk crowd. The Weho Halloween Carnival sadly would, and easily could be a “soft” target for extremist terrorism.

If you make yourself a target you will easily become one. Mayor Horvath appears to be an un-evolved person with only her next steps in view. Tunnel vision, no rear view mirror and no traffic sensors.

Everyday is like Halloween on Santa Monica Boulevard nowadays. The only thing missing is a parking pass for Michael Myers.

This will never be a respectable or dignified city until people stop behaving like it is Peter Panville, the most accurate description heard ages ago. This includes city council who need to either initiate, appear at or be the focal point of some parade. Serious business first, parades later.

Gotta love the irony of anti-mask conservatives in this thread bitching about canceling the one holiday celebration which actually requires masks

Why would you want the event canceled?

Honey. You’re boring. The only ones having fun right now are the anti dictatorial sane ones. You seem sufferable. And love having rules and insane overreach. Enjoy being miserable.

The majority of residents here are vaccinated and trust science actually. And we are allowed into events and restaurants while you take to facebook to complain about “the great reset” and whatever stupid conspiracy theories you can think of.

Dear Green Eyed Guy, I deleted the last two sentences of your post above removing the insults but posted the rest of your reply. Im receiving direct phone calls and emails regarding your nasty replies to many members. You also monopolize the board with your replies to each and every person who has a thought of their own. This morning we reviewed your IP address and looked at the last 130 comments you have made. Just shy of 100 of those were replies to others, personal put downs and condescending attitudes. And then my phone rang with somebody calling direct… Read more »

I don’t know what you removed from his post, but what remains is actually right on. Sane people understand that we’re in a pandemic and a variant strain of Covid is threatening not only the unvaxxed but some vaxxed as well, it’d be silly to plan events involving large amounts of strangers pressed up against each other. That being said, sane people are vaxxed, and can have lots of other kinds of fun right now… while the unvaxxed rabble are rightfully sidelined, buying horse de-wormer, and planning the next date to say their prezident will seize power.

Not sure what your talking about removed from post. Nobody who approves posts edits the post, a comment is either posted or not posted in its entirety.

In your previous post to greeneyedguy, you stated “I deleted the last two sentences of your post above removing the insults but posted the rest of your reply.” That counters what you just stated to me.

Wow, you’re really not going to get over something said 1.5 years ago when we were just learning about a once in a century pandemic?

No wonder everything is a conspiracy to you people. It’s sad and pathetic.

Get vaccinated.

Yes, it’s all made up by those evil scientists and doctors to control you.

They went to all of those years of medical school and residency just to do the global cabal’s diabolical bidding lol.

Pandemics will NOT adhere to YOUR social construct of “goalposts ❗ ” 🤣 The Delta Variant easily drove the herd immunity threshold over 80%, close to 90%. Expected from a higher Ro disease that’s more easily spread, hopes of eradicating the COVID-19 Pandemic are easily destroyed by the unvaccinated. 😢 HIT (herd immunity threshold) = (1-1/Ro)-(E X Pv), Ro = basic reproductive number, E = vaccine effectiveness and, Pv = vaccinated population.

The only thing sad and pathetic are your whiny comments on this very website. You seem like a very unhappy person. I’m sorry for you. Other folks have opinions that differ from yours. If you need a safe room then you might want to go build one in your mommy’s basement but people are allowed to have different opinions than yours without the name calling. Whatever happened to “community”?

This is a wise and prudent decision. Not only do we not have a handle on COVID, the Halloween Carnaval is a huge expense and there is plenty of other priorities in our budget. The Carnaval has been careening on the edge as the crowds have become so large as to compromise the safety of the event. Before the City decides on hosting Carnaval 2022, it needs an open review of the both the budget and the public safety aspects of the event. Perhaps we do a smaller or ticketed event. I have had great times at this event over… Read more »

At least they care about women and children in Texas. Joe just killed women’s rights and is watching girls get sold to the “peaceful muslims” in the Middle East. His pull out was more cruel than 6 weeks in Texas, honey. But watch more msnbc.
