Stabbing, fights and paramedics ring in Labor Day Weekend 2021

Friday night along Santa Monica Blvd. included a stabbing and multiple fights that required the sheriff’s attention.

Lt. Bill Moulder confirmed that “on early Saturday morning, Sept 4th, at 1:30 am, an assault with a deadly weapon, (stabbing) – West Hollywood deputies responded to a call at 8787 Santa Monica Blvd. The victim suffered injury and was transported to the hospital. The victim was uncooperative and did not provide any statements.”

At the same time, fights took place outside of 8853 Santa Monica Blvd, in front of the BlockParty store. Jose Flores, an employee, gave a statement: “We heard shouting and someone came over and shut the store door because the guys are fighting right in front of us and the big guy 6’2″ hit these guys who were about 5’8″ and beats them really hard in the face and then he was bleeding and the guy collapses in front of the store unconscious. All of a sudden people come to try to help him but the ambulance came about 25 minutes later. The ambulance took a little long because somebody got stabbed a block away.”

A third incident along Santa Monica was also reported about 20 minutes after the above. An eye witness who was outside the BlockParty store at the scene described “a security guard to be hitting a girl and then a bunch of people were jumping in to stop them. It became a shit show. People began throwing plastic cups and things at the cops.

I think we should post the schedule, addresses, and all of the assets of the city council members on leaflets and toss them out to the drug infested homeless encampments that are looking for a quick buck.

That pretty much sums it up. I was there for the gay ghetto years. It was a great place to live back then. Worst thing that ever happened was the AIDS pandemic, which turned the area from rental waiting lists to giveaway rents. Then came “cityhood”, and the attendant corruption, and now it’s a sewer. Makes me sad to compare then and now.

Basically many of the responses can be summed up up like:
BOO HOO the 1970s when the white male oppressor made the shocking discovery that he, western imperialism and, his entire capitalist establishment were far from invincible. Now the whining resonates through their media outlets well into the 21st century ❗ 🤣

The new generation will never know anything like the carefree fun and sexy times we all had. You seem to know nothing about our inclusionary housing program and who lives in them. Here’s some homework for you John, how many seniors and people living with disabilities reside in our affordable units throughout the City? What’s the income level of someone who resides in one of our moderate-income units how does that compare with yours?

I’d like to see the stats on crime in WeHo going back a few decades to compare to what is going on now. I’ve been here for a few of those decades and I don’t remember the kinds of crime we are seeing here now in the years before. Maybe I just wasn’t paying attention then in the way I am now, and although there certainly were occasional violent crimes, it just seems I’m hearing of shootings and other life-threatening attacks very, very often now.

You are absolutely correct. An analogy is how there are likely the same number of tornados in the US as there ever were. It’s just that there are more people in what used to be remote places (and now people to videotape them). Greater LA has grown almost 33% since West Hollywood was incorporated and draws from this population.

Almost all of the increased problems are related to too many bars, too many intoxicated people and too many people coming in from everywhere. The bars on SMB are always jam packed and who has become a prime nightspot for people near and far – straight and gay. You just can’t have wall to wall bars lining several blocks with thousands of people coming in. Trying to control crowds like that is unmanageable

Just wait for the train stop at SMB and San Vicente to come through that Horvath has been pushing for years. Then we’ll see the violence and crime surge in Boys Town even more than one Friday night stabbing.
City of Santa Monica saw their crime increase with the train stop addition.

The city is perpetuating this type of behavior. They continue to extend the invitation because the city, city council and obviously business owners seems to have no concept of quality of life. They think any revenue is good revenue and have few standards. The city does not uphold its own ordinances and just accepts this. As you say when the train arrives the city will be TOAST. Junk like this will keep flowing into West Hollywood through human storm drains without any resistance.

I can’t stand this sort of thinking. The benefits to the city and community of rapid transit far outweigh this short sighted NIMBYism. Greater LA has 18.7 million people and West Hollywood isn’t an isolated bubble. I don’t like this violence either, but know it’s been happening a long time. Just ask Sal Mineo.

Our society is becoming more violent and more quick to do violent acts than in the past. That is reflected in the visitors who come to West Hollywood,so I am not surprised this is happening. It’s sad but that is what is the result of anger and frustration building up in our population.

Incidents in the past that would get a stare or two now lead to fistfights or worse. The COVID pandemic has made things more difficult with people out of work.
