I came across the closure of SMB at 5 am as I headed out for cardio. The guard at the MTA lot explained what happened, although he thought the person had been killed. At least the “douchebag” driving the white Maserati sedan turned around and took responsibility. He was arrested after failing a sobriety test according to the MTA guy. No clue if it was drinking or something else. I’m very glad to hear the person hit wasn’t killed and I hope he recovers. It’s frustrating that this still happens, despite the convenient crosswalks with traffic lights and flashing road-embedded… Read more »

SMB in the Great City of West Hollywood should be shut down permanently to private vehicles and, serviced exclusively by Public Transit just like the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica ❗

Here you go again Cy, SMB is a state road. Your pontifications of “shoulds” is unrealistic.

Actually, as I recall, the City of West Hollywood acquired SMB from the State (or maybe LA County) a number of years ago. As far as I know, the City owns it and is responsible for it.

Sad for all involved. I hope the person struck fully recovers and I also hope that Uber and Lyft can get their acts together again so people are less inclined to take risks by driving themselves when they go out.

He is currently in critical condition. The driver failed the sobriety test & was arrested for DUI.

Driver was in a Maserati. I’m so sick of the drunk douchebags racing down SMB at night.

Maybe the “douchebag” was the pedestrian jaywalking? The article doesn’t say where the accident happened on SMB and god knows the drunks in this city like to jaywalk

Other outlets reported the driver was booked for a DUI.

Still like playing devil’s advocate?

If the douche was drunk and jaywalking still makes him douche. If he doesn’t think to cross in all those beautiful bright crosswalks the city wasted money on that’s his fault

Wasted money on signaled crosswalks? If spending money on pedestrian safety is your idea of wasting money, then I say waste some more!

In California, drivers have a duty to exercise reasonable and due care to ensure the safety of pedestrians on the road. Vehicle Code 21950 requires motorists to yield to pedestrians. VC 21950 (c) places additional responsibilities on motorists in that it requires drivers to exercise due care when approaching pedestrians. Reality is that DRIVERS have a higher burden of legal responsibility then pedestrians especially when the 2 are involved in an accident. With DUI, the driver’s goose is cooked ❗

More like a “douchie” is attracted is attracted to a certain make of vehicle, even worse they always seem to be attracted to me❗

Sorry, Stevie. Driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated wins the “douchebag” award — and it’s also a possible felony when there are bodily injuries to others.

Felony in Kalifornia??? LOL, there won’t be any felony charges won against this poor driver that hit some fool jaywalking.

I’m pretty sure any dui in which there is an injury (even if just yourself) is a felony in California. The jaywalking is irrelevant.

I think you have forgotten about the illustrious Far Left Lawless new LA District Attorney. The driver will most likely get a warning (with free drink tickets and an Uber discount)

Why do you keep defending a drunk driver?

This is bizarre.

Could have something to do with the FACT that affluent white males have the highest rates of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) than anyone else ❓
