Construction has begun on the four-story residential building at 7617 Santa Monica Blvd.
The mixed-use project, built atop a former carwash location, will feature 9,000+ sq. feet of commercial space on the ground floor and 71 apartments, including 11 affordable housing units.
“Taking cues from local building vernaculars, 7617 Santa Monica Boulevard was made to embrace the climate of Los Angeles and create a subtle material change along the historic boulevard,” a description on the developer’s website reads. “As a medium scale residential development, the project creates density while respecting the surrounding neighborhood.
Designed with varying setbacks from SMB, the project’s varied mass increases usable outdoor space on the ground floor while creating outdoor common areas and widening the sidewalk. The result is a new housing project that reinterprets the form and materials traditionally used to define West Hollywood.”
7617 Santa Monica Blvd. is a project of LaTerra Development, designed by Office Untitled.
Construction is expected to take about 30 months.
looks nice, but who’s going to clean my car now? I’m worried about all those nice Mexicans that worked there, what’s going to happen to them? they did a great job and they worked hard all day long.

I would hope the sound-proofing is up to speed. Why anyone would live on SMB is beyond me.
I like it. Fits in and a good use of that space.

Not sure how quiet it can be, sitting on or back from the boulevard. I looked at places on Fountain in the last decade and it was very noisy.
you’re not kidding, I looked at a condo that was a couple of buildings up the street from Gelson’s, and boy was it noisy out there on that balcony, I was really surprised how loud it was. Not for me, no way.

Never fails, of all the designs created by this developer, West Hollywood gets a BOX looking Tenement.
Take a look at what they created in Santa Monica, Burbank, and other places. Their designs are beautiful and embrace nature.
We get the prison boxes.
I’m not saying you’re not correct in your design comments but this development abuts the fire station on the west and the eastern portion of the project will have views of the 7-11 mini-mall so I guess we have to cut the developer a few breaks. The project will still enhance this section of the Eastside.

Perhaps Office Entitled or La Terra Development could tell the community what “cues it took from local building vernacular”. The project apparently reinterprets the form and materials used to define West Hollywood. Could they please point that out so we could have a greater understanding?
