A man suspected of conducting a late-night crime spree in West Hollywood was in custody Saturday.

The man, armed with a baseball bat and a box cutter, allegedly committed at least three crimes near La Cienega and Crescent Heights boulevards on Thursday beginning with threatening a victim at a restaurant in the 8600 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, according to Sgt. Joana Warren of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s West Hollywood Station.

When the victim tried to call 911, the suspect allegedly snatched the phone and ran away.

Deputies received a call at approximately 9:17 p.m. Thursday about a man matching the description of the earlier suspect attempting to break into vehicles parked at a hotel parking lot in the 8400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. After the hotel manager confronted him, the suspect threatened the manager and ran away before the deputies arrived, Warren said.

Later Thursday, a man matching the same description as the suspect in the previous two crimes approached a victim in the 8200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, near Crescent Heights Boulevard, at 9:56 p.m. and demanded money, Warren said. The victim screamed for help and the man fled on a scooter.

Warren said the suspect was caught after deputies in a patrol car spotted a man who matched the description at 10:51 p.m. near the intersection of Santa Monica and La Cienega boulevards. A pursuit began when the suspect ran away but he was detained and arrested by deputies, Warren said.

The suspect’s name has not been released.

The suspect committed 3 separate crimes in the City of West Hollywood. During the 1st incident, the suspect was at a local restaurant in the 8600 block of Santa Monica Bl. The suspect became angry, pulled out a box cutter and threatened the victim. The victim tried to call 911, and the suspect pulled the phone away from the victim, preventing them from calling 911.

At approximately 9:17 pm, WeHo station received a 2nd call with a similar suspect description. In the 2nd incident, the suspect was attempting to break into vehicles parked at a local hotel parking lot in the 8400 block of Santa Monica Bl. A manager at the hotel confronted the suspect. The suspect armed himself with a baseball bat and threatened the manager. The suspect fled prior to deputies arrival.

At 9:56 pm, a suspect, matching the same description as the previous two crimes, approached a victim on the 8200 block of Santa Monica Bl. The suspect demanded money from the victim. The Deputy attempted to detain the suspect, who then fled the location. Two additional deputies saw the suspect running from the location. They immediately jumped out of their vehicles and chased the suspect fearing he would attack additional victims. Seconds later the suspect was apprehended and arrested by the pursing deputies and deputies from the Entertainment Policing Team (EPT). The victims were able to positively ID the suspect.
The case including several felony charges will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for filing.

Can we please get a City of West Hollywood police department? The $27 million bill for I-do-not-know-what-they-do is absurd and a fleecing of the city. After all of the hard work to entice developers and business owners to invest in the city, I would expect an equal effort from the council to protect the income stream. Rudy Giuliani doesn’t generate a lot of praise lately. However, he tackled the crime problem head on with the broken window theory. I have been victimized by repeated break-ins/ID theft and then victimized by detectives that take no signed statements, review no evidence, and… Read more »

Wow, after reading all the following comments,I am glad this crook was caught by trained armed deputies who know what they are doing! People who don’t know what they are doing are a greater danger. Have any of you learned from the Rittenhouse fiasco??!!

California needs to build many mental asylums to house the violent people currently living as predators on our streets. They need to be medicated for life and kept away from healthy people trying our best to live good lives.

California DID have “asylums” to house people like this until Gov. Pat Brown (Jerry’s dad) thought it was a violation of the civil rights of the criminally mental ill to not allow them their freedom if they promised to take their meds! (You see how well THAT has worked out!) To be fair, it was the state assembly who pushed that through, but with Pat Brown’s support, who later admitted it was a mistake. This new law did not take affect until the next governor came into office who was Ronald Reagan who had no choice but to enforce it,… Read more »

It’s time to arm ourselves. With a concealed weapon. For self-defense. OLM our lives matter!

No more kowtowing to all these neurotic boring Woke types with their political agenda on the city council. Yeah, the dreadful SHE? Shyne, Horvath and Erika Erickson. With their busy body Commie meddling nightmarish slop push down our throats.

Get cops back on the beat and the homeless off the streets!

Arming ones self is a very poor idea. Become an observant resident and avoid conflict escalation and consider the advantage of being an evolved diplomat with antennae. Use your head rather than hostility.

Everything that is not nailed down in the United States ends up in West Hollywood. Like Horvath and Erika Erickson.

Someone’s feeling randy after the Rittenhouse verdict. Angry, armed white men scare me more than street thugs.

Go ahead and carry your concealed weapon, chances are it’ll get taken from you and then take your life.

You need to do a little research where you’ll find overwhelming evidence that more guns result in less crime.

You also need to read up on the Rittenhouse case to learn that what it appears you think you know is absolutely untrue.

Now if you can’t get a CCW permit (a good thing for everyone) you need to keep taking your medication and, avoid trouble. Like when rich white people come in possession of a firearm they think it makes them a gun fighter. 🤣 Reality is the range time required to get a handgun license is grossly inadequate in terms of being prepared to defend themselves from an active shooter and, more guns lead to more suicides and accidental shootings. The members of our City Council were ELECTED by solid majority votes and, you are welcome to run for office with… Read more »

Unfortunately the ruling California socialists do not believe in a society which the 2nd amendment provides for. They would rather its sheep be a perpetual victim with a silver spoon government handout in their mouth.

Awww but see Nellie, I have the right to speak my mind and protect my assets by voicing myself. Don’t hate that I’m not a subsidized housing queen like yourself and so many others on here. Now go back to spending Nancy and Maxine’s monthly government checks.

Undoubtedly great “get away vehicles” for crimes of opportunity facilitated by our Public Safety Dept. and the LASD lax enforcement of their respective crimes
