It seems that City of WeHo hasn’t recognized the Hollocaust Remembrance Day which was yesterday. It also seems that their focus lately has been primarily on the LGBTQ community, aside from the obvious Covid, homelessness and crime issues. Mayor Pro Tem Sepi Shyne in one of the latest meetings also expressed an opinion to cut the budget for a yearly event called Yom HaShoah which usually takes place in April.
I absolutely understand and support all that the city is doing for the LGBTQ community, it’s wonderful that they are putting so much effort into making the community strong. They are also putting incredible amounts of money in producing the Gay Parade every year, which has become a staple for the city BUT there are other communities that reside within the city boundaries and it is so very important for the city to recognize them as well.
Holocaust Remembrance Day is a very important day for many and shouldn’t be overlooked.

Your email message was forwarded to me and I’m happy to share some background information.
The City recognizes Holocaust Remembrance Day and Yom HaShoah each year. This year, during the current surge in COVID-19 cases, there was no in-person programming specific to Holocaust Remembrance Day. The City did work to raise awareness in a series of posts yesterday noting that Holocaust Remembrance Day is an opportunity to honor the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and stand united against antisemitism, bigotry, and hatred.

I agree. Shame on Shyne for suggested it especially in light of the fact that the council is spending $80,000+ to paint colors on asphalt. At least correct the typo on the front page.
The social media posts were posted only after I pointed out that there was no recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day. I think the city was shamed into action. I am eager to see where Sepi Shyne stands on funding recognition of events such as this that are culturally important to a significant part of our community.
They did the same thing with September 11. They slapped up a recycled banner from Veterans Day that had nothing to do with 9/11.
Seems lately Wehoville is an extension of the City’s PR department. Publishing press releases as “stories” and now this. There is zero journalism on this site anymore. Shame.
Maybe there should just be a category under “City Releases” that is not on the scroll. That way Wehoville could do its’ public service without detracting from actual news stories.
We are purusing updates to the sites with new categories such as that, but this was a letter to the editor, that was sent to all the council members, and included the press releases.
Printing the letter has been in keeping with your policy to give people the opportunity to access the pages of WeHoville for vigorous
