On Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., visit the Black Women Lead Pop-Up Market in Plummer Park. This free, open-air event will feature Black vendors, panelists, and performers in the afternoon at Plummer Park, providing the community with the opportunity to celebrate Black History Month in West Hollywood.

The event is hosted by Black Women Lead, a nonprofit organization that amplifies Black women’s and other underrepresented voices and leadership abilities within their own communities in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Black Women Lead was formed two years ago by Shannon Morton, a member of WeHo’s Social Justice Task Force, in the wake of the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor killings.

Morton, appointed to the task force by Mayor Lauren Meister, began her activism with a public celebration of Breonna Taylor’s birthday at Pan Pacific Park which drew thousands of people in the midst of the pandemic.
