The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department had to shut down Sunset Boulevard on Sunday night when about 1,000 people flooded the street after a concert at the Roxy in West Hollywood was canceled at the last minute.
Hip-hop artist Yeat apparently pulled out of his 8 p.m. performance at the classic WeHo music venue, and the Sheriff’s Department said the concert was vastly oversold. The building’s official maximum capacity is 500 people, according to AEG. Police dispatch received the first call about the crowd at 7:57 p.m.
Videos posted on social media and Citizen app reveal a chaotic scene, with throngs of young concert-goers inside and outside the Roxy, some climbing signposts and other property. Nearly a dozen law enforcement vehicles are shown lined up along Sunset Blvd. as police helicopters fly overhead.
There were no reported arrests or injuries. The incident comes one night after police in Beverly Hills managed to shut down a “street takeover” involving more than 100 vehicles attempting to perform donuts in the middle of the intersection for 150+ onlookers.
It’s not the first time crowds have massed outside the Roxy, forcing Sunset Blvd. to be closed.
Large, unruly crowds have also set the stage for recent shootings in the Fairfax/Melrose commercial corridor, and neighbors fear a new streetwear store opening in the former Tower Records building down the road from the Roxy will usher in further mayhem.

To be fair, this isn’t the first time this has happened near this same spot. Those of us with some experience under our belts will recall the “hippie riot” just east of here in 1966. That was worse, what with half the throng buzzed out on acid, trying to overturn and destroy RTD buses and cars. I didn’t see near as much damage from this melee.
Of course, few if any reading this can compare the two, since 96% of WeeHoe residents aren’t from here.
LOL! I used to live 3 doors and across the street from the Roxy on Hammond, way back in the good days. I could see the marquee from my front door. NEVER had a public safety issue like this back then, no matter who was headlining.

In its quest to be the entertainment venue of LA, the City of West Hollywood contorts itself into the enabler of all folks mentioned who don’t know how to behave in civilized society. It’s a Faustian bargain, a deal with the devil which will not correct itself on its own. It comes at the expense of responsible tax paying residents who are mere pawns in the deal.

The last time the Roxy Sunset hosted any show of note was when The Go-Gos and Ratt used to headline back in the day. Since then, it’s all been downhill. Except when U2 played about six years ago.
The Rox has been a has-been for decades now. No top tier act will play there nowadays. Ergo, you get what happened.
Let me explain why the cancerous people on the city council will continue to be reelected. They pander to the poorer people on the Eastside, giving them all sorts of handouts, mostly paid for by people on the wealthier Westside. I agree with your assessment of Lindsey Horvath. She has a way of seducing women–who can help her career–into becoming her flying monkeys. The flying monkeys absolutely adore her, are sprinkled throughout city hall, and have indeed helped her career.
The problem is that you can’t simply vote them out. The freeloading Eastsiders, to their credit, actually go out and vote, because it’s totally in their selfish interest to get all kinds of free stuff. The wealthier disinterested Westsiders, don’t bother to go out and vote as much cause they really don’t care and they have nothing free coming at them. On top of that, the Westsider numbers are much smaller. Welcome to the quality of life future in WeHo. Overselling a concert for 500 capacity so 1000 show up looks like a strategy. Roxy, with all its recently acquired perks and history of concerts might believe it’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission for a gross miscalculation.
