In a video posted Thursday, Mayor Lauren Meister expressed solidarity with the many WeHo residents who wrote in to express their alarm over the Public Safety Commission’s recommendation to slash deputies from the Sheriff’s budget.

Thank you Mayor! We cannot reduce funding, we NEED adequate public safety in our wonderful city. Thank you for understanding and listening to citizens!

Looks like someone is worried that this won’t happen, and is resorting to making up conspiracy theories:

Thanks for the heads up! Nika is just unbelievable; apparently anyone who has a point of view that is outside of her alternate universe are guilty of spreading “mis-information”! Until I read these twitter posts I was of the mind that reasonable people could differ and that demands she be removed from the Public Safety Commission overwrought. Obviously I was wrong. She is an inflexible ideologue who has her own agenda and is not even remotely interested in hearing what residents have to say.

That’s why she fits in & is so comfortable with Shyne & Erickson. What a mess we’re in

You’re welcome! I guarantee that any accurate information will either be manipulated or categorized as “mis-information” ahead of the next City Council Meeting. That way, the Council will have no choice but to cut 10 deputies. I guess it’s my own conspiracy theory, but this one might actually be true.

Watch the oblique word salad statements on this subject Monday evening. They will then toss the scramble to the City Attorney who is bound to add another level go obfuscation.

Please take note that in Nika’s twitter feed she echo-chambers a defense of her totally discredited attacks against the Sheriff’s Dept, tweeted out by the ‘people’s city council of LA’ which is a sister organization of blm-la, both of which were founded and lead by Melina Abdullah – who in multiple interviews has boasted that their use of the slogan ‘defund the police’ and the tactic of claiming that is the only method by which to fund social services for the mentally ill is a bait and switch ploy used to dupe people to jump on their bandwagon, and that… Read more »

Thanks Andrew! The advocates for cutting ten deputies provided us the false choice that we had to either do these cuts or not have the mental health outreach teams. Fortunately we could do both. The limited discussion on the Public Safety Commission was replete with unfounded assumptions and anti-law enforcement blather.

Thanks, Lauren for using. this forum which appears to reach more residents than any other means. Right on the mark, this one. More such reach-outs!

Hey Lauren, remember me? I am the person that requested a meeting with you months ago to share concerns that the administration’s actions/inaction may be exposing the city to liability. I have shared on the site numerous times, describing sheriff department malpractice. Since then I have learned far more and suspect deliberate, harmful acts by the department. I offered to share my foot tall pile of evidence. You declined and scheduled a call which your deputy dominated, directing me to social services as the “conclusion”. Let me just say now, my words of caution should have been fully digested. The… Read more »

Thank you Mayor Meister. Thank you for listening and hearing your community. This topic is of local concern. It is NOT political….it is NOT personal….
I applaud you for speaking out and up about this and I am grateful that you ALWAYS PUT COMMUNITY FIRST.

In my opinion, you are the voice of the people, the VOICE OF REASON. Brava and thank you.

This is a shout out to Larry Block: how about we start a recall drive on Horvath, Shyne and Erickson?

Interesting thought, there have been multiple calls to WEHOville this week about the possibility. Nobody wants to speak publicly but I listen to two community voices that are well known advocating this exact item. One would need to get 15% of the voters who voted in 2020, – or about 4000 signatures.

I can get about 100. Just need 40 more people to do the same. Easy.

The Public Safety Commission should be a body we can respect and have meaningful discussion with. We cannot, it’s a joke. Thank you Mayor for understanding we need to focus on the current crime issue and for separating the issue from personal agendas of commissioners. Gangs hijacking cars for WeHo for smash and grabs have nothing to do with mental illness or homelessness.

Even while Meister and I strongly disagree on many major policy decisions, she has at least taken meetings with her constituents across the aisle, and has been open to meaningful redress on the issues.

Meanwhile the Mean Girls bully and isolate their political opponents, punch down from their daises, and greedily compete for victim-status for every -ism they can claim.

She hasn’t won my vote yet, but Meister is the best we have at the moment.

I’d love to know more about you anon, if you ever have the courage to share. To answer: Yes I do, it’s a First Amendment Audit channel. I started my career 15 years ago in police accountability and still work in policy and clinical research to address police abuses of vulnerable populations. Recently I’ve advanced protections for massage workers in the aftermath of former Weho Sheriff Dave Smith’s 2019 conviction for extorting massage workers for sex. Even someone like me can recognize that “defunding police” has been used as a political bludgeon (on both sides). Even I can perceive that… Read more »

Thanks to Lauren for this, a voice of logic & reason on this subject. Obviously I agree with her & support her position. The very suggestion of cutting sheriffs’ funding & reducing the number of deputies in the city is ludicrous & dangerous. I think it also should be a public concern that we have elected officials who even go there, & think they should instead be thinking of ways to enhance & increase law enforcement protection for the city and not ways to make the city less safe. I’m incredulous that city “leaders” would even suggest such a thing.
