In recognition of Women’s History Month, this panel discussion will feature Iranian Women from different religions and cultures to discuss these pressing issues and injustices.

Special Guest Panelists:

  • Naeema Eckfeld, Secretary of the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of the City of Los Angeles
  • Mitra Samani, Board of Director & California Director, Women’s Freedom Forum
  • Elham Yaghoubian, Founder, Iran-Israel Alliance of Nations

Moderated by City of West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore Sepi Shyne

Viewed this event from my office and listened to the litany of grievances from the participants which is known to many but admittedly not all. There was no discussion, no questions from the viewers.

My primary question would be if Ms. Shyne has a burning desire to make a difference in conditions of women in her home country, why is she not active as a Human Rights Attorney? That would be admirable.

This appears disingenuous on several levels. Ms. Shyne does not identify as a woman. Secondly her color identity is murky by her own statements. Thirdly rather than committing to a focus on issues of the West Hollywood community which she promised before elected she appears to be putting together the semblance of a portfolio dedicated to visibility within the Iranian community in her quest for position at state level. While this tea party talk may be interesting, please be aware of the motives.

I didn’t even have to click on the article to know that one of the first comments would be a dis of Sepi Shyne. And you are including an insulting statement about the definition of a woman. What are you referring to? Never mind, I don’t want to know.

I’m sorry that you have a problem with the public having an opportunity to learn about women’s rights violations in Iran, on one of the last days of Women’s History Month.

More toxicity.

Simply define a woman.

What’s insulting about asking what the definition of a woman is? You obviously are confused.

My apologies. I did not immediately recognize the supreme court confirmation reference. No, there’s nothing insulting. I guess I’m just a little jump (and tired, this morning). I’m expecting someone to say something negative towards Ms. Shyne, over this. People have given her flack, for defining herself as a “woman of color. ‘More than once here. Have a good day.

I am a proud lesbian that doesn’t need a biological degree to define a biological woman. Randy seems like he needs a lesson and a backbone.

No, I misunderstood. Please refer to my earlier response.

I have plenty of backbone. And I am a proud gay man, who is one of your allies.

If you truly want an answer from Sepi, you can reach out to her by email, or phone number on the city website. I don’t think she reads this site. At least, I’ve never seen her respond to someone in one of these comment threads.

The entire city council reads this site. You’re either lying or naive.

Where is the evidence showing the entire city council reads this site?

Provide evidence and stop making baseless claims.

You randomly accusing commenters of being city council members isn’t evidence of anything.

Why can’t you define woman?

Lets keep the streets here clean and safe. If one wants to learn more about issues in Iran……very easy to do so without the WH government.

This isn’t just about Iran. The Human Rights Speakers Series has been going on for some time, and the city government can walk and chew gum at the same time.

it’s not their function

Yeah, that makes sense. it is not the human rights commission’s function, to talk about human rights for women in Iran. Do you argue, just to argue?
