City Council will tackle pronouns, Progress Flag

Pronouns and progress are the topics du jour at next week’s City Council meeting.

Agenda item 5B proposes inclusivity training for city officials instructing them on gender identity and gender pronouns. The proposal would also require city councilmembers, as well as commissioners, board members and task force members, to display their chosen pronouns on placards during official meetings.

Currently, WeHo’s two male councilmembers use standard he/him/his pronouns, and its three female councilmembers use she/her/hers pronouns.

The plan calls for significant consultation from the Transgender Advisory Board.

The proposal also calls for changes to the city’s flag policy. According to the report:

There are currently several pride flags on display throughout the city. According to the current flag policy, two Lambda Flags are permanently displayed at four center medians along Santa Monica Boulevard and a Rainbow Flag is on display at the Crescent Heights Triangle Northeast Corner. In addition to the permanent flags on display, the City flies Rainbow Flags during Pride month in June each year. This item proposes to adopt a new flag policy (Attachment A) to replace the permanentLambda Flags and the Rainbow Flag – as well as any other temporary Rainbow Flags flown on City property during Pride month with the Progress Flag. With this proposal, there would be no change to the Transgender Flag permanently on display at the Crescent Heights Triangle Northeast Corner.

The flag updates will cost approximately $1,500.

UPDATE:

There are two Lambda Rainbow Flags in the median on Santa Monica near La Cienega. One lambda rainbow flag will remain in the median on Santa Monica and one progress flag will replace the other.

At the four other locations on Santa Monica Blvd. that have two lambda flags, one will be replaced with the progress flag. Those four locations are:

  • Santa Monica Blvd., west of Robertson, by Pavilions driveway
  • Santa Monica Blvd. & Palm by Yogurt Stop
  • Santa Monica Blvd. & Huntley by Chop Stop
  • Santa Monica Blvd. by Ramada/Sprouts

Think bigger. The city should require on all placards including parking/building permits:

1. Sexual orientation
2. Top, bottom, vers, or asexual
3. Age
4. Ht and wt
5. Hairy or smooth
6. Single, Married, Open, or Poly
7. Favorite sexual activity(ies)
8. Boxers, briefs, jock, or none
9. Current city of residence (come on, really)
10. Degree, if any
11. Favorite food
12. Dogs, cats or other
13. Who you slept with to get this appointment/permit

Oooooooh boy… Pronouns: I can’t wait for this BS to kick off. This massive push for “inclusivity” is making me go ape. Inclusivity, we’re all special, everyone is the best! No. That means we all suck, forcibly, and equally so. Exclusivity is amazing because it gives you something to work for. Man is a goal-striving creature. Stop pretending Tess Holliday and Scarlett Johansson are in the same league. Progress flag: yeah, nothing says Progress!™️ like tyranny. All these woke nonsense movements are actively erasing the gains we made collectively as a society, and that specific groups made. Trans activists? Erasing… Read more »

Nothing more “progressive” than forcing employees to bend to the will of a few. When these issues are new, the response is always, “how does recognizing [insert intersectional class here] people affect you?” Now we know.

Hope someone plays along and posts “It/It/Its” as their pronouns.

SOOO glad WeHo council is focusing on the issues that matter: pronouns…and a flag. They definitely have their priorities straight (or is it ‘Him/her’? So confused!)

PRONOUNS are we serious? There are serious safety issues, homeless issues, jobless issues, and we are worrying about PRONOUNS!!!!! That is truly laughable! Let’s concern ourselves with Climate Control, Saving water! Recycling! Serious issues! NOT PRONOUNS!

I, too, think we should limit air conditioners to not running at a temperature higher than 68º F during the summer.

Back in the day there was a play I saw in NYC called “For colored girls only who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enough”. It’s a real good play. Look it up. My dear friend Gilbert Baker designed the eight color rainbow flag to embrace basic human qualities. That flag had fuschia and turquoise, colors Gilbert said were the “gayest”. He never copyrighted his flag but had to settle for six colors when the two gayest ones were not available in sailcloth nylon in 1975. Gilbert lived with us in WeHo when we opened the first medical marijuana… Read more »

Like the ill-advised crosswalk change at San Vicente and SMB, the “progress flag” actually EXCLUDES groups instead of being more inclusive. The rainbow design included no specific groups, so included everyone. By including specific groups, you are leaving out the ones not represented. It reminds me of Orwell’s “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.” In particular, I don’t see any color to represent seniors, or deaf people, and I’m sure there are other groups I’m not thinking of right now. This is a step in the wrong direction.

These are the same type of gay predators from our community that have no children but want to indoctrinate children in Florida into their predatory immoral behavior. There is a part of the gay community that is really sick and demented and unfortunately represent our city council.
