It’s free, in a prime location, and there’s no city tax.
If you live local to Santa Monica Blvd., then you must have noticed the newest ‘bed’ without breakfast. This past weekend WeHo hosted this guest on the corner of Hancock and Santa Monica in what appears to be a foam mattress.
One resident noted the man strumming his guitar while serenading passer’s by.
Monday, what appears to be another guest checked in at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and San Vicente with a new mattress which appears to be coil with a slight pillow top. The new location is just outside the newly painted Progress Flag on the northeast side of Santa Monica Blvd.
A local business owner reported the ‘mattress and guest’ was there for over a 2-3 day period with no interference.
The City of West Hollywood employs various social service organizations for outreach. The Sheriff also employs the MET team, (mental evaluation team) as well as contracts with Ascenia for homeless services. Neither of which appear to be working during peak weekend periods.
Thinner mattress was left on my street for over week- no one picked it up. A- stupid to ever leave a mattress or couch on street, you know what is going to happen. B- why didn’t city pick up the mattress in a more timely manner?
This homeless guy with the guitar is also always out on Santa Monica Blvrd. I’ve seen him for over a year– clearly mentally ill or on drugs – why doesn’t someone do something within our homeless systems?
I sent an email to the mayor last month about the amount of individual homeless along Santa Monica Blvd. I told her that the city council needs to take a walk down the Blvd, and see what is going on. She invited me to attend a Zoom meeting of all the homeless agencies that work in the city. It was the most absurd thing I ever witnessed. All they did was pat each other on the back and say how good they were all doing. Crazy. Also, the Homeless Concern line is an absolute joke. Why don’t the Safety Ambassadors… Read more »
Yeah, their answer is always…attend the meetings. Well, we’ve attended the meetings, voiced our frustration via emails (and at meetings) and still nothing is done. The situation is getting worse….and worse. Our city is looking like a third world country. FAILED leadership..and I hate to even call it leadership.
If we can’t move them maybe we should paint them with our new amazing flag!
I wish you offered a comment thumbs up. It would be telling on where the community really is on issues.
I have to appreciate the clever take.
My tremendous love for city I have loved and loved in for the past eight yearz–is waning! 😣
I’ve been here 30. It’s been downhill for the last 10.
If you go only so far as the short stretch of La Cienega between WeHo and Bev Hills that belongs to Los Angeles, you will see more than one homeless tent city along that major thoroughfare.
So I suppose it’s all relative. It’s not great to have mattresses on the sidewalk. But very local conditions just outside our borders illustrate just how much worse it could actually be.
You people STILL cannot understand that your uninformed, poor voting choices have led to this. Cognitive Dissonance. You were possessed by TDS, and when I suggested you pay more attention to local governance, you mocked me. I’m talking to you, JG. I was a lone wolf crying in the wilderness. I left California, what are you going to do???
Calm down. This problem is not unique to West Hollywood. OR democrat voting/governed cities. We just happen to have the best weather that won’t kill you year round.
Seattle? Tacoma? Portland? You’re ignorant and misinformed.
This is so DISGUSTING!!! Why are we letting this happen. In no time at all, there will be encampments through out West Hollywood!!! What happened to the laws that prevented this nonsense!!! And for those of you who like this, then open your house to these people and NOT have them in our streets!!!
This is easy…too much tweaking going on that mess of a city.
Don’t you have anything else better to do, Larry Block?
You’re reading it. Can’t you ask the same of yourself? If you don’t like what he posts, you are free to not read.
How is it possible this got so many comments? Seems to have hit a nerve. Many comments are far off subject.
Especially your comment being off subject.
