A classic WeHo burger joint is getting a new lease on life.
Irv’s Burgers opened up shop in 1950 at the corner of Sweetzer Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd., serving homestyle burgers and fries until it closed in 2018.
The new Irv’s Burgers is located at 7998 Santa Monica Blvd. next to Laurel Hardware.
A recent popup event heralded the return of the restaurant. Its Instagram page has begun teasing a re-opening, which is tentatively two weeks away.

Funny….during the closing (at Sweetzer & Santa Monica bvld) and after it was announced the burguer joint would closed at the location it had move to (Laurel Ave & Santa Monica Blvd), EVERYBODY was sad and surprised they were closing as the focus was on the owners losing their business after having opened for a long time…. Now, EVERYBODY is like, “Oh, Cool! I can go eat again!”… as though the history dind’t matter, but the food choices in WEHO. … It’s a bit strange and a tad ignorant in a way.
Isn’t this the location they occupied on SMB after leaving SMB and Sweetzer? Although, this itertion looks a tad different.
The location was in a storefront facing SM. This new location is at the corner and is more like the burger stand they had years ago. This location also gives it more visibility than being in a storefront.
I love this! When I arrived in West Hollywood, in 1986, Irv’s was a charming, quaint burger joint that was my go-to place. It will be again. This is truly a historic venue. Irv’s revival fits, what was old is new again. I can’t wait. Irv’s was part of my vernacular in the ’80s and ’90s. “Let’s go to Irv’s.”

On my visits to West Hollywood,I would see the Irv’s Burger Stand,but never stopped in.I didn’t realize it was such an iconic place and nobody told me anything about it.
The one place I liked and relied on when I visit the bars would be L.A. Buns,the little burger place next to the car wash on Santa Monica Blvd..Food wasn’t served at many bars,so this would be my stopoff place before heading back to the hotel.
There are not very many places that are independently owned and have a quirky menu.L.A. Buns is one of them.
