Plans for a small mixed-use tower are taking shape for the corner of La Cienega and Santa Monica Blvd.
The building will replace the single-story home of Bike Shop LA.
8500 Santa Monica, as the project is known, will include three dozen small apartments and 3,800 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor.
Among the one- and two-bedroom apartments will be five units reserved for low-income tenants.
No timeline for construction has been revealed.
As it is early in the process somehow I already see a “SMALL TOWER”being way bigger than suggested.

Large builboards have replaced architecture in West Hollywood. These “Boxes” have become the strip malls of the 70’s and 80’s. “Oh, we’ll just hide this ugly common box with massive billboards”.
Is there not ONE person in city government looking for interesting architecture?
One will need to wear sunglasses 24/7 just to like in ELECTRIC BILLBOARD TOWN!
Unfortunately there is possibly but one person in city government that is reasonably qualified to recognize interesting architecture or has a discriminating eye for architecture in general and the progression of credible architecture that was built in West Hollywood from the early days. Unable to make value judgements the city staff can be manipulated into any position. No time line seems to be the new order. 8150 Sunset, the Townscape Frank Gehry debacle, lost their loans. Then they went to the German banks which is desperation time. Now the corner of Crescent Heights and Sunset has been empty for over three months where Lytton Savings and MacDonalds was. The other businesses were driven out by the corrupt Townscape developers who put Horvath and D’Amico (along with Ed Buck) in office. PLUS…The City is giving Townscape the Sunset Blvd to Crescent Heights Blvd. turning lane and island (It’s a valuable parcel of land for them.and accidents waiting to happen.
To be accurate the City of LA acquiesced in giving the aforementioned turning lane and island to Townscape despite significant pushback by surrounding residents who were alert to all aspects from the get go.
In reference to Michael on Havenhurst, regrettably Lauren Meister crafted a very poor deal resulting in West Hollywood bearing the brunt of Townscape’s 8150 Sunset sewage.
Removal of that turn lane is safer for the many pedestrians there. That turn lane is not a high-volume lane.
I’d like to know more about the state of 8150 Sunset. Is it still happening as designed?
