With Councilmember Lindsey Horvath advancing to the runoff in the County Supervisor race, her seat on WeHo City Council is up for grabs for a growing field of candidates. Mayor Lauren Meister will be the only incumbent defending her seat in November’s election, as Councilmember John D’Amico is retiring and will not file for re-election.
Among those candidates is former Councilmember John Heilman, who served from 1984-2020. He was defeated in 2015 in the March election that brought Meister to the dais and Horvath to her first elected position on the West Hollywood City Council. Heilman bounced back in the June special election for the open seat left by Jeffrey Prang and then served until his defeat in 2020.
Other candidates who have declared their intention to run include Marquita Thomas, Chelsea Byers, Zekiah Wright, Robert Oliver and Jordan Cockeram.
Former Councilmember Steve Martin is expected to make his announcement in the next few days, and former Councilmember John Duran is “almost ready” to join the field, he said.
Ben Savage, a 17-year-resident of West Hollywood, also told WEHOville he intends to run. “I am planning a run and looking forward to bringing a new and positive voice to the Council,” he said.
If all the above names are on the ballot, there will be 12 candidates competing for the three seats.
I’d rather vote for someone who is not constantly hooking up with random people and posting about monkey pox vaccinations
Ben Savage as in Ben Savage? Boy Meets World kid?
Meister, Wright and Martin are the most qualified candidates from this list. They will be getting my vote!
Marquita Thomas is already irrelevant despite her “position” on the Planning Commission. To date she has shown no ability to comprehend or question planning issues but she looks for opportunities to critique members of the public, notably a highly respected land use attorney for not referring to individuals during and extensive dialogue by their proper pronouns, purport to claim racial bias by others and loudly claim that residents of the West Hollywood West community are racially biased against her. She is mighty glib with her speech and even though a Director with LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce appears self involved confirmed… Read more »
Thomas has the luxury of dismissing any critique as racist. She will continue that intellectually lazy defense as long as we let her. In the current performatively woke culture some might shy away from truth and honest debate in favor of that sad mob mentality.
a strong NO on Thomas.
she is a toxic person. strong no ma’am.
Robert Oliver voted FOR the motion to defund the LASD and refuses to engage in any dialogue about it. Robert Oliver has proven himself unworthy of holding public office by his refusal to engage in any dialogue about his vote to defund the LASD.
Strongly NO on Oliver.
It’s a sad commentary that we have to be “welcoming back” candidates who have already been voted out of office, Heilman voted out twice! But at least I think most voters realize that Duran’s personal sexual proclivities & bad judgment, have to be secondary to his performance as a councilman, which was for the most part good & he’s always been. qualified & capable. And look what we got by trying to replace them! Disaster & more disaster in the making. Lauren Meister is obviously a “keeper”. Then we can only hope some other more qualified & capable choices will… Read more »
What a fun election season this will be!
…for me at least
John Duran’s sexual indiscretions cost taxpayers half a million dollars. I will NOT be voting for him.
Two questions for each candidate: 1) How long have you lived in West Hollywood, and 2) What is your position on defunding the police. One additional question for Robert Oliver: Do you stand by your vote as a public safety commissioner FOR the motion to defund the LASD contract by $3.2 million? It’s a yes or no question, Robert.
Check out JordanForWeHo.com. His dad was a police officer and his mom a prosecutor.
That’s very nice what his parents did but where was he on the big public safety debate going on these past few months in West Hollywood? Ive never seen him make a public comment, or serve on a commission or write an op-ed in wehoville. Mr. Cock is a want-to-be, probably placed in the race by one of the candidates to split the vote.
I don’t know who the candidate on the bottom far right is, but I’ll be voting for him. No contest!
I know you’re joking, but this is how many gays will vote. So sad.
Yep, so many vote with little or no idea what the person stands for and who they really are.
He’s Jordan Cockeram and definitely has my vote. He’s also has a Cat lover! Meister is okay, but a no voite, after she made a terrible deal with Townscape re 8150 Sunset dumping their sewage down Havenhurst Drive. Now Townscape has rerun out of money for the 2nd time. They and their NY partners lost their first loan, then had to get bucks from a German bank and the anti-gay marriage owner of the One Hotel. This appears to have gone south since the corner of 8150 Sunset – Crescent Heights and Sunset SW corner – is just a pile… Read more »
people like you who don’t relate to issues ur judgment on many things is jaded and biases. He was dating John Duran so maybe you have a shot.
It is incorrect information that he dated John Duran. To learn more about Jordan, take some time and look at his website: JordanForWeHo.com
For me, it boils down to who has the experience, who IS NOT a left-wing woke kook, what’s their history in WeHo, & what is their intention for WeHo. Let the games begin!
Voting with you!
This is why Horvath is dumping any connection to West Hollywood. She knows in November the voters are going to dump the “woke trash” like herself, Erickson and Shyne. Only Hovath can’t escape her past. As for Oliver and Byers they are in the same boat!
Yup
more of the same.
good grief
LOL
