The Public Safety Commission’s vice chairperson resigned at the group’s Monday night meeting.
The move by Alana Roshay caught the Commission totally by surprise. Roshay, who was appointed in late summer 2021, was roundly admired by her fellow commissioners, all of whom were saddened by the announcement.
Roshay revealed her intentions during the commissioner comments at the tail end of the meeting, where she defended Commissioner Nika Soon-Shiong from the barrage of criticism her push to defund the sheriff’s department has drawn.
She said she was proud of what the commission had accomplished during her tenure.
“We didn’t just rubber stamp the process,” Roshay said. “For the first time in a long time, I saw a group of people who were asking hard questions, questioning authority and demanding transparency.”
Roshay recommended that her colleagues choose Commissioner Kerri Balbone to fill her position as co-chair. Balbone was glad to return the compliments.
“And you are a breath of fresh air and a force,” Balbone said. “You have a nice way of holding people accountable. And also making space for everyone. And I commend you for it. I hope I’ve learned from you.”
Unlike the commenter below who is using the handle Revamp Commissions & Boards – As a decades long resident, I actually watch and engage with various commissions and advisory boards meetings. This same commenter spreads various forms of vitriol and microaggressions toward the LGBGTQ+ community on just about every post on this website. As I pointed out on the recent WEHOville post in reference to LGAB – it is apparent that this same commenter has an agenda to discredit those in service. Be advised that this behavior is reminiscent of either: A “Friend” of Lindsey Horvath (or) Someone Who Is… Read more »
Good riddance! She had zero qualifications for the post and clearly lacks the intellect and maturity needed to make good decisions.
Actually, I disagree with you. After closely watching the video of PSC last evening for 3hrs 14 minutes myriad issues were clearly visible. It’s my belief that Ms. Roshay had reached her limit and chose to resign. The commission would be more effective with disciplined and articulate members other than Danny who woukd best besign. In a nutshell this commussion was under the purview of Kristin Cook who upon initial email exchange and conversations during 2021 re: scooter issues and excessive speeding on Fountain/Crescent Heights , concluded she was an ineffectual figure head, neither a strategist nor a problem solver.… Read more »
Hopefully the next appointee will be a professional. Between Nika’s sever vocal fry, and Danny’s f-bombs, it was almost unbearable to watch. Can we also move past this cell phone thing? The Sheriff has more important things to do than finding drunk people’s cell phones.

This is one of the many fiefdoms encouraged by the city for residents to presumably “have a voice”. Although the intent may have been worthy, each and every commission/board has evidenced a large gap in relevant expertise and judgement. It appears a 2.0 version of “get involved entertainment” which instead of accessing and communicating relevant information and operating as antennae for the dedicated Councilmember, they exponentially splinters off into mindless diatribes and exhibitions of offensive behavior. Recently we have witnessed the opportunity for arenas of maladjusted to become public wrestling matches. Recasting these commissions/advisory boards to adhere to higher ethical… Read more »
With Ms. Roshay’s resignation & Nika Soon-shiong’s days number as Horvath’s council-ship comes to an ends, the dynamic of this group will shift.
Shyne should be very careful with her new appointment to ensure they better represent the concerns of the residents who actually live in West Hollywood. We will be watching.
Yes, we will be watching.
Oh, Shine gets to pick? Yikes! I guess we’ll definitely see another “community activist” that’s lived in West Hollywood for three months.
Scary to think what “community activist” living in West Hollywood for three months gets picked to replace her.
