Update: 11:45 am. : The City of West Hollywood will lower all city flags to half-mast in honor of the late Ruth Williams.
Ruth Forster Williams, a founding figure of the City of West Hollywood, died today, according to a posting on her Facebook page written by her son. Williams had suffered a stroke on June 4 and had been hospitalized since. Funeral arrangements are forthcoming. The post reads:
“It is with our heavy hearts and it devastates us to announce the untimely passing of our dear mother, Ruth Hanna Williams on June 17, 2022.On June 4th, Ruth suffered a stroke which unfortunately she succumbed to at the hospital and passed away. Ruth was continuously surrounded by her family and friends during her last days and knew how much she was loved.To know her was to love her and she will be greatly missed.Ruth is survived by her sons Steven & Richard Neubauer, Michael Forster and her grandchildren Jonathan & Lauren Neubauer and Jacob Forster. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made and will be communicated once completed. Ruth and I were close friends and neighbors for over 30 years. We chatted everyday. When I look out and see her building – right behind mine, the sadness sets in. I miss her terribly and hope she is in place where she can see me saying I miss you.
I’m her oldest of 3brothers my friend is unknown but she needs to the housings staff & nurses on duty we she was living so possible ok files 😭🙏😭😭

From a single mom who was just outraged that her boys could not safely play in Plummer Park, Ruth became an exemplary activist who was never afraid to take on the big issues. Ruth’s legendary contributions to the City of West Hollywood from well before cityhood, through incorporation, and right up to her well-voiced concerns in these last couple of months, will not soon be forgotten. Our gratitude for her tenacity, courage, and wise counsel and words should be forever etched into this city’s legacy. RIP to a true local hero.
