$10,000 scratch-off sold at WeHo Pavilions

Friday June 24th started out like any other day for Byron Corres.

He showered, dressed and headed out to take care of things he’d designated to do that day. Driving through West Hollywood he decided to get something to drink to cool off from the hot day.

The closest place was our local Pavilions and while there he decided to buy a few California Lottery scratchers available in their handy machine.

Things weren’t looking too good, he’d already spent $200 and was only rewarded with $20 he found on 2 different scratchers. Then at 12:30 he took his last $10 and slid it into the machine. He selected the California Dreamin’ scratcher. The first 2 little windows did not match any of his numbers.

Finally, in the third window he saw a match with the number 31.

When he scratched the window he had the shock of his life. Under the number 31 was the figure $10,000. He rubbed his eyes not believing what he was seeing and then put the identity bar under the light of the machine where you check to see if you are a winner and how much you won. Lo and behold it told him to get a winners form from the clerk and then the figure $10,000 appeared.

When asked what he planned to do with his winnings Byron said, “I’m going to send it to my mother in Guatemala.” Ahhh!

How many thousands has he wasted playing this scam? It’s shameful that the state raises revenue off financially illiterate people.
