Monkeypox spreading among gay men, county says

The monkeypox virus is spreading quickly among the gay community, the L.A. County Health Department says.

‘Anyone can get and spread monkeypox, but some of the recent cases identified have been among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men who attended large events where the exposure to monkeypox may have occurred,’ said Los Angeles Department of Public Health in a statement.

The county now has 22 confirmed cases, up from three on June 2. California has 51 cases, more than 25 percent of the 199 cases nationwide.

County officials are now offering the JYNNEOS vaccine to individuals at higher risk. New York City began distributing the vaccine ahead of its Pride celebration. Tens of thousands of people celebrated Pride in WeHo and Los Angeles this month.

The disease spreads through direct or close physical contact, and it often begins with rashes on the genitals and anus before spreading to the rest of the body. People are infectious until their rashes become scabs and fall off.

No deaths have been reported in the 2022 outbreak but monkeypox can prove fatal for vulnerable populations.

“All Americans should be concerned about monkeypox cases,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra in a statement.

I contacted LA County Public Health today (6/28), and they say the vaccine is not yet available in LA even though their own article states that it is. How can we get the vaccine?

The vaccine will be available more towards the midterm elections.

Exactly. In the meantime the amazingly moral gay community will continue to show their PRIDE by going to sex clubs and bath houses and spreading a potential deadly disease like they did HIV. Because sex to them is more important than another person’s life. Go Brandens!

Then why in the world did you bother to post a comment?

On behalf of all the Wehoville readers, we challenge you to post one nice comment somewhere, sometime this week.

Ham is perpetually miserable. It would be extremely out of character.

Just another reason to stay with my good friend Armjando. My right hand man has been with me a very long time and has always been a reliable partner. If he gets monkeypox I’m switching to my left hand man. Until he gets monkeypox…

Getting the info out there as to where specifically people can get this (I assume) free vaccine would be helpful. The county should be making this as easy as possible.

Apparently there was exposure at the Glamcocks party at Catch One on June 11th.
