I recently took a stroll thru the new park—it’s hideous beyond description. I am appalled, given the huge about of design and landscaping skills that exist in our community, that it turned out to be so ugly—all at a cost of over $100 million!!!
The whole project just looks cheesy and lacking in a Wow factor. The layout is not inviting or user friendly, and the equipment is shabby and already looks worn out—fading paint, mechanical failures and totally uninspired “play” equipment.
I get it that the “desert” landscaping saves water, but that cost saving is at the expense of not having a lush, green park with shade trees, picnic tables, verdant lawns and an overall esthetically pleasing environment. The tree selections are particularly ill-suited. Those skinny trees will never fill out in a pleasing way, and shade will be non-existent. And what about that vast expanse of ugly grass?? Are people just supposed to walk on it try to get a suntan? What purpose does it serve? Walk over to the Beverly Hills park on Santa Monica if you want to see what can be done with a neighborhood park—lush greenery, walking paths and verdant flowers and greenery—even their desert park is well thought out.
What is the purpose of that vast expanse of vacant space in the park supposed to be used for? Can you name one activity that it could be used for??
Anyway, we look to you as our community gadfly to try to get the Council to avoid catastrophes such as that park, but whoever designed and built that “park” owes our community an explanation, including an accounting for what all that money was spent on! It’s a disgrace on many different levels.
Finally someone with integrity is telling the truth… WeHo is no longer WeHo . The homeless people have taken over the streets and when one goes to any type of business the parking attendants are rude and violent. People who don’t even live here. We are sold out and many of us are selling our homes and moving to better places. The money spent here is not worth the bargain.peace and love .
The team that produced the West Hollywood Park undoubtedly evaluated the client West Hollywood as a sucker.
Oh, and I think it’s time to do an expose on the Sheriff’s giving rides on the helicopter. That’s gotta cost WeHo a fortune too, clearly nothing like the $100,000,000.00 landscaping. But helicopters aren’t for friends to view the city or wealthy real estate investors. How do you get on the helicoper ride list anyway – or is an 7nder the radar cash payment?
$100 Million for Landscaping? No, that has to include so much more. There is $50K in Landscaping max. But if it’s true that WeHo paid $100 Million, it warms my heart to know corruption knows no bounds, I would most certainly have bid $75 Million.

Then you don’t get it at all, because the last thing we need in CA, and anywhere in the world for that matter are water sucking lush landscapes. Priorities.
I think all you who post negative comments must post pictures of your household decorating skills and your yard work decorations to prove you have any design sense at all and prove your opinion has any weight. William Williamson does need to go hang out in Beverly Hills and other parks where he can be happy. Get figures correct. Way over $100 million. More like $250 million for phase 1 and another $250 for last phase including moving the fine & perfectly nice public pool to the top of the second parking structure.

A pool, with thousands of gallons of water, on top of a building, in an area where earthquakes happen!!!! Are you serious!!!!!! Where will that water go when we have another Northridge January 17, 1994, at 4:31 a.m. PST, a magnitude 6 .7 earthquake.
If you want to see great park design check out the Historic Cornfield Park just north of Chinatown. Beautiful design loaded with spaces actual people can enjoy. Weho is so busy drowning in self importance they’ve become totally unresponsive to the actual citizens of Weho. Such a shame.

Which has what to do with WeHo Park?
The individual mentioned, Mark Rios did the renovations on the Roxbury home in 2015 making it ineligible to be considered as a historic resource. Secondly, he spoke at the hearing before the BH City Council where he claimed the structure would be ineligible. Failure to reveal this information to the owner who contracted the renovation was unethical and likely characterized as an unfair business practice or more. Testifying compounded the issue.
The point you missed is that Mark Rios was brought into the West Hollywood Park renovation that appears to be wildly over budget.
