There is another article on this web site stating the community garden is a temporary deal for 12 to 24 months while the city gets it act together to build a new affordable housing complex that is in the planning stage.The community garden is not a permanent deal as one commenter was complaining about.
With interest rates rising,it is going to get harder to obtain the necessary financing to build. The community garden may end up being at the location longer than anticipated.It should be OK as the property is being cared for and watched by the garden people.

What an utter waste of a public resource. So a handful of people get a few bites of tiny tomatoes. The space could be better used in a way more people could benefit, like a public park to play in, a parking structure, sold off to build lots of luxury condos for millionaires creating more tax revenue for the City, sold off to build $5,000 a month luxury apartments for rich people creating more tax revenue for the City, or as a last resort housing lots of homeless tents that our City Council members want here so badly. Are you one of the millionaire class that you seem to support so much? This City was founded on the concept of rent control and welcoming ALL kinds of people. I know because I was there. Were you?
Seriously you believe that? Just because you want it to be true, doesn’t make it true. The State of California ultimately decides rental issues, i.e., the wonderful glorious Ellis Act that allows property owners to control their own property, rather than the way it works like in North Korea, which is what you dream about. For those who made bad life choices and can’t afford to live here, there are cheaper options out there, like cheap trailers for rent in the Mojave desert. I would add that the City wasn’t founded “on the concept of rent control” or to welcome “all kinds of people”. It was founded as a playground for rich people, but with perhaps a tiny tiny thought for the downtrodden, as a way for the rich people to relive some guilt about being successful, and as a way for people like you to think you are compassionate and helping the downtrodden, when in fact you make it worse for them. To the completely uninformed writer of this comment who presumes to know everything about everything: This property has a recently approved project in the pipeline serving lower income residents and previously unhoused individuals. The interim decision by the city was to provide a Community Garden. Countless surveys and informed folks believe that scratching in a little plot of ground and nurturing plants provide a notable positive effect on one’s psyche in addition to providing edible produce. You might apply to obtain a plot and work out some aggression slamming a hoe into the soil.
