Designer clothing retailer John Varvatos has closed its West Hollywood location at 8800 Melrose Ave.

The storefront is now for lease. John Varvatos joins a growing list of recent West Hollywood business closures including Starbucks and Cousins Maine Lobster.

This past summer, Varvatos opened the flagship store of his new unisex clothing line OTD (On This Day) at 8580 Sunset Blvd.

Everything is getting too expensive in West Hollywood! The Abbey used to be an inclusive establishment, now it’s only for the wealthy.

Another fashion brand will move in. Not sure why this is newsworthy.

To support the attempted political influence this page has in turning weho into a white NIMBY police state

another example of the decline of West Hollywood … more traffic, more tourists, more hotels, more dispensaries, more crime, more of everything that has taken all the charm that was once West Hollywood

Originally that section of Melrose, East to Harper/Fairfax and North of Melrose along La Cienega to SMB was the Original Design District filled with meaningful shops and purveyors of design, antiques and unique restaurants. Thanks to prolific developers such as Ben Soleimani and others erased these shops and their unique grounds to build oversized bland showrooms without any character. Soleimani said he was building West Hollywood’s version of High Street in the UK. Not quite, as he erased the equivalent of High Street. As the character of the area disappears so does the public. Now Varvatos and Fred Segal have… Read more »

I’m gay and I’ll take Sunset over Santa Monica Boulevard any day. More character, more inclusive, better clubs, better shops, hotter folks (tourists).

Absolutely true. I could not agree more. Have lived in WeHo for over 20 years and it has lost its High Street, small town charm.

Needed time to process:
Weho is LOSING ESTABLISHED BUSINESSES DAILY.
Weho is NO LONGER BUSINESS FRIENDLY.
Weho is NO LONGER SAFE.
Weho is A DRIFT IN CRIME.
WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?
WHAT IS TO BLAME?
When our city makes unilateral decisions without data, impact reports, without business and resident input nor Chamber of Commerce and law enforcement professional input this is the outcome.
A CITY IN DECLINE.
PROPERTY VALUES ARE NEXT.
No one wants to let live in an OVER PRICED DANGER ZONE.

You said it perfectly. The ones who are causing the devastation of West Hollywood will soon be crying in their soup and asking how the public can help. Which is exactly what San Francisco is doing today now that they buried themselves with the open-air drug markets. Now they’re asking the public how they could solve this problem that’s become overgrown and out of control. Good luck with that. The only answers are to VOTE SMARTER or move to a safer town.

You’re finally waking up to this? J predicted that this would happen when I heard cityhood had passed. I gave it 25 years beford it’d collapse, but, to its credit, it’s already outlasted that prediction. But now, down she goes, hard by the bow!

Soon nobody will live here. It’s becoming a democrat dystopia. Look at SF. It’s a cesspool of human filth. Parts of this city already are gone. Enjoy.

I’m so happy to see a wealthy person fail. We don’t want your capitalistic business in West Hollywood. Go to Malibu and entertain your rich TRUMP fans. You’re not welcome in West Hollywood. Get out fraud!!!!!

What kind of business would you like here? Should OWN be next? Target? Pavilions, Ralph’s and Gelson’s? Maybe Cedars Sinai?
I’m really interested because I want to understand.

I would get rid of all of them. Profiting on groceries that have caused global warming should be a CRIME! The amount of water it takes to make your almond milk, your perfect avocados, your disgusting meat, is all affecting our world and you should not shop at any of the places mentioned. You’re the problem!!! You’re selfish.

Dan, the only thing disgusting is you and your attitude. You are the perfect definition of bigotry. You judge people for eating meat and wanting perfect avocados? You bitch about how much water it takes to grow almonds but don’t think about how some people are allergic to milk or other plant based milks. Have you ever thought about WHY we don’t have enough water when 70% of our rainwater fors into the ocean? Well, it’s the environmentally woke people like you who have stopped decades worth of reservoirs being built in California. Dan, it’s YOU who is the problem.… Read more »

What the hell is a “non-capitalistic” business that you seem to think would be good? And how are they going to s I rvive? A non- descript store with nothing on its shelves besides white rice and white flour??? In fact, the problem that businesses face in WeHo are the non-capitalist policies common here!

That store spewed anti lgbtqia+ capitalism with clothes made in sweat shops in countries that have had to endure global warming at the hands of wealthy white people. West Hollywood is going to be under water soon – less than 5 years away and you’re concerned about capitalism!!!!
