Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest serving monarch, has died at age 96, according to Buckingham Palace.

The queen famously committed to serving her “whole life” as monarch when she took the throne at age 25. The crown now passes to her son, Charles, Prince of Wales.

No statement has yet been given by her family in Los Angeles, her grandson Harry and his wife Meghan, the duke and duchess of Suffix.

My job with the US Air Force kept me in town during her coronation, the spectacle of a three hour parade of representatives from the slowly dissolving British Empire and the parties which followed. Further contacts with the UK over many years evened how dearly she was considered by her subjects – the British people. LAST OF HER KIND . WELL DONE.
