JOHN D’AMICO: ‘Voting is always about inventing the future’

Congratulations, you vote!

And if you’re reading this you’re probably a voter in the West Hollywood city council race.

This election there are many terrific candidates to choose from to help build the next several years of our little city. Voting is an important and vital right, a personal action that renders our collective democracy visible and helps keep our city a progressive beacon for the newly-settled and the long-term residents, alike.

If you’re like me, when it’s time to vote you will consider carefully all of the candidates, think about the features, and promises, and concerns that make our city special and make choices that will help bring those ideas into reality. Voting is never about honoring the past, voting is always about inventing the future.

There’s another way I look at candidates, too; is the candidate interested in being useful, or just wants to be needed?

Too many people running for office are only interested in feeling needed, having a title, believing they’re important, and they’re not interested in being useful to their constituents, in working every day on addressing and solving the everyday problems of residents and businesses who often have no where else to turn.

Make sure your chosen candidates want to be useful to you and your neighbors. As for me, since 2011, I have had the honor of being elected three times because of you, and serving three terms, with two stints as Mayor. The pleasure has always been in putting the residents first, keeping our city the place our residents can count on, protecting the resident’s interests, while continually working to keep the city exciting and fresh.

Cities are never finished. So many important things have happened in West Hollywood, but we can never become a city that is more interested in ‘what we’ve done’ than what ‘what we have to do.’ I’ve accomplished a lot on my own, and even more with the collaboration of my colleagues, and the amazing city staff, and the support of the residents, and businesses; together we have changed our city and the world around us – for the better.

Something West Hollywood does very well; experiments, grows, and invents the culture that other cities consume. It is a better city now than it was in 2011, and, if we all do our part, it will be an even better city going forward.

On Tuesday Nov. 8, I’m voting to make sure that happens.

As always,
Councilmember John D’Amico

We’ll, at least the meetings should now all be about an hour shorter without all his “ums.”

Any member of WeHo city council who can’t wait to parade around town bare chested and wearing a cockring under white jeans – shouldn’t be taken seriously. Especially when he does this during city sponsored events. Good riddance, John D’Amico! I hear there’s a corner for you at The Abbey. Bye, Felicia!

He didn’t just F’ the community with his baseless, idiotic thoughts, he managed to get F’d by a whole bunch of men in exchange for votes, promesises and self-pleasure. He will go down in WEHO history’as the definition of “THEYHOLE.”

John, thank you so much for your service. And, indeed, you have a thick enough skin to survive these pointless barbs on WEHOVille. What you did in your article is encourage people to vote. That’s it. Although your term is ending soon, you remain a resident and a community member. Many people in West Hollywood supported you and continue to support you. Elections aren’t easy and you did well in three of them. Again I publicly thank you for your service and commitment to West Hollywood and on a personal note, I want to let you know what a pleasure… Read more »

The point is, people are pissed off. He turned his back on the people, of West Hollywood and followed his own extreme agenda. That is not what the people wanted, nor is it what they put him in his seat for. Good riddance to him -he did West Hollywood wrong.

Former Mayor D’Amico would invariably show up at entertainment events and be not willing to pay admission stating “ but I’m the Mayor of West Hollywood”. A petty ill advised person not focused on his responsibilities to the community but willing to blemish it for his own benefit.

I did like when he told Erikson: “Come on man, get a thicker skin!” Don’t think it worked, she is still pretty fragile, but it is my fave D’Amico memory.

The following is a list of John D’Amico’s accomplishments on the City Council during his 3 terms:

Legacy of condescension

You continue to hold onto the belief that you’ve fostered innovation, but you’ve publicly belittled people who made you feel unheard or who threatened you with data and intellect. Meanwhile, your ideas were Go Go boys and Out on Robertson. Using your seat to disparage people you didn’t agree with and diminish the value of experience doesn’t build community or care for the future. Track records and results matter too, even if they make you feel threatened. Thanks for suggesting we vote for inspiration and dreams while paying high rent and/or taxes to live in West Hollywood. Maybe we should… Read more »

You clearly didn’t put the residents first when you voted to cut the Sherrifs.

So now we’re stuck with Block by Blockbuster. I’m sure Shyne’s getting a kickback from that or any of the other corrupt politicians on that city council.

You’re not stuck, the vote was to potentially cut deputies but no deputies have actually been cut.

Did you hear Damico on his last meeting before the election. We can finally build housing that is not for wealthy people. John voted for every major project along with his former planning commissioner John Altschul. D’Amico is re-imagining history.

The D’AMICO/ALTSCHUL Monument to building unattractive, expensive housing for the community that has so much need for moderate and low income. They didn’t need a new plan they just needed to notice how the original housing was distributed in the city…….which actually worked. Naw, let’s erase as much potentially historic housing in favor of expensive sardine tins that grace Santa Monica Blvd in the East side. Have they won many design awards?

I can’t stand that John Altschul….he was always on the side of the developers…and put down renters. and because D’Amico put him on as planning commissioner..that is unforgivable!!! Good Riddance !!

John D’Amico should look in the mirror and see what he became. After the johns lost in 2020 damico showed that he was inauthentic and he was carried by duran and Heilman, now he’s carried by shyne and ewreckson
