Former Councilmember John Duran fell to fifth place in Wednesday’s tally of votes for the West Hollywood City Council election, overtaken by labor attorney Zekiah Wright, while activist Chelsea Wright held onto third place.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Duran had 3,155 votes — just 14 votes behind Wright (3,169) and 84 votes behind Byers (3,239).

The top three vote-getters will win seats on City Council. Mayor Lauren Meister and former Councilmember John Heilman are currently in first and second place, respectively.

The count will continue until certification, with new tallies released daily.

Why on eartth is this taking so long? There is no excuse for these elections to be taking days… much less weeks and months.

This vote shows the strength and ability of unite 11 to get out the vote. Love them or hate them they are well run.

Great. Another 4 years of student council. More damage to come from people who have no clue what they’re doing and the real world consequences of their decisions.

Per this morning’s totals Byers closing in on Heilman. Depending on remaining votes (though there can’t be that many – I think Wednesday was the cutoff of receiving mail in ballots), the trend this week make it an outside possibility that Byers and Wright are in and Heilman is out. Unlikely, but that would certainly be an interesting result given the tenor of the conversation so far. But it’s undeniable that Wright and Byers resonate with a substantial portion of the voting public.

The problem with West Hollywood is that there are a lot of people who rent here for a couple of years and then move away. These people vote for unqualified people like Byers and Wright because they care more about making political statements than about making intelligent decisions. Who cares who you elect if you’re not going to stick around long enough to feel the consequences of your vote? That’s why people with zero qualifications get on this City Council, and that’s why West Hollywood now has a growing crime and homelessness problem.

So it’s basically like anywhere else in the US these days. People would probably stay where they’re at for longer periods of time if the rent was cheaper but you probably don’t support anything that would make it cheaper. creating lasting communities.

After an election, candidates should be legally required to remove their campaign signs from public places. Since then I’ve been seeing them all over the sidewalks & even laying on the streets getting run over by traffic. They’re hanging sideways or upside down on the windows of vacant buildings & all over the grass strip on streetside parkways. I know the trash collectors will eventually get them but not so far. They are the candidate’s responsibility from campaign beginning to end & they should care & be responsible enough to clean them up. If they can put these signs up,… Read more »

WOW…JUST WOW! I am so very excited to know that the three of us, Stephanie, Elyse and I have SUCH POWER! And that you know for whom I voted! How do you know that? Hmmmmm!

Now, knowing the power in our hands, the next election should prove to be very, very interesting indeed! …and so it goes!

Here’s a thought, maybe these people represent the people of WeHo, even if these candidates seem ridiculous. There are a lot of young people who live here and leave after a couple of years, so maybe they identified with Zekiah and Chelsea.
