WeHo heightens security after Club Q shootings

West Hollywood is heightening its security in the wake of the shootings at a Colorado Springs gay bar that left five people dead.

Councilmember John Erickson told NBC Los Angeles that residents can expect “increased patrols, both in the cars and on the feet by our Sheriff’s Department, as well as increased Block by Block security ambassadors.”

The measures, he said, take effect immediately.

This summer, City Council controversially voted to reduce the budget of the department for the next two years, thereby decreasing patrols by deputies. Erickson and Mayor Lauren Meister voted against the move.

I tip my hat to David Cooley, owner of the Abbey and the Chapel who consistently provides plentiful security both inside and outside of his very popular nightclubs. From my observation, these clubs are kept safe by way his own security staff in addition to contracted security guards on occasion and sheriffs stationed curbside. This formula works. So, while standing on street corners yelling into blow horns over one’s “outrage” and demanding that “something has got to be done now!” may serve some sort of purpose, I applaud Mr. Cooley and his fine team for actually DOING something to prevent… Read more »

Great to hear. My only question is how Cooley has sheriffs stationed curbside. Are they there all of the time? If so, why aren’t they patrolling the whole couple of blocks of bars? To my knowledge, Cooley isn’t able to arrange for this unless they are off duty deputies.

True. Nobody has on-duty sheriffs “stationed” outside their business unless they’re off-duty sheriffs moonlighting as security guards. There have been numerous incidents of violence occur at & around the Abbey, & if I recall correctly, including a case of purported rape, not to mention the extremely high incidents of cell phone thefts there. Me thinks C’mon Sense either exaggerates or is woefully unaware.

How are they going to know who is non-binary??? Is it easy to tell?

And so it goes....

Outrageous behavior generally makes one a target.

Try doing your work quietly and respectfully and fitting into your oeuvre.

The constantly aggrieved even when recognized, never seem satisfied,

I’ll be out monitoring this statement. Otherwise it’s just a press quip for self attention.

Nothing personal about them, but the whole idea that the “security ambassadors” help deter criminals & crime, is pathetic. I often now see single members walking up my street alone, with their heads down, eyes fixed on their cell phones while texting & ignoring what’s going on around them. The 2nd time a friend & I noticed this same scenario on a nearby street sidewalk we didn’t even need to mention it, just look at each other and laugh. (Although it’s not laughable in a funny way). We also see there are 3 of them stationed behind a podium with… Read more »

Yes, be on the lookout for non-binary possible shooters. In this totally joke of a city. Anything Erickson
said has to be taken with a grain of salt. Because he is perhaps one of the worst persons ever to be elected to the office along with a dreadful Ms. Shyne.
