Deputies search for armed man who was at The Abbey

A search was continuing Thursday for a man who was seen flashing a gun inside a popular gay bar in West Hollywood.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s West Hollywood Station received a call from The Abbey’s security team around midnight regarding an armed man inside the bar.

Deputies evacuated The Abbey and swarmed the club but did not find him. Authorities said surveillance video captured images of the suspect in the bar with the weapon.

“We do have our EPT team, which is our entertainment policing team — they’re always doing patrol checks at all the businesses on Sunset and Santa Monica, so that’s why we got here within seconds,” Sgt. Joana Warren told ABC 7.

No one was injured.

MAYBE places like the Abbey, and other high traffic high profile places need more undercover security, AND more real police / sheriff’s on duty to deter crime.

In the past, in most communities, “cops on the beat” generally caught their man. Now we seem to have overly complicated and conflicting interests deciding who’s who, who’s available what do they wear, and how are they armed or not armed. Doncha’ think the perpetrators know this and take their chances? It’s a free for all.

Shocking that, with the defunded Sheriff’s department, the Security Ambassadors couldn’t have prevented this, caught the suspect and brought him to justice. Shocking, I say!

The Abbey should have had Social Workers for security.

Let me guess: this was a nice rosy-cheeked Irish lad who just got off the bus from Iowa who came to LA to be an actor and is an assistant at Paramount who just coming out?? Cuz, you know, historically, that’s the kind who brandishes a gun at the Abbey. 🙄
(Maybe we wouldn’t have these problems if we, you know, kept our GAY BARS gay?? But gang money is still green (if occasionally speckled with red) and that’s the important thing, right? Maybe some cold hard Bachelorette cash in there, too?) 🙄

You are seriously blaming the clientele at the Abbey for this incident? Unbelievable.

Club Q in Colorado is an LGBTQ nightclub. Were those people any “safer?”

I have my own thoughts on the subject but since you specifically brought this up, how exactly would you “keep the bars in West Hollywood gay?” I would love to hear some practical suggestions. That is, if you have ever carried the thought beyond merely wishing only gay people would go to these places.

1000% on target! PUNKS coming into gay bars are prime reasons NOT to go to them. THUGS willing steal anything that is not nailed down. GAY BARS should indeed be that! They should NOT be party venues for [w]itches who want to make fun of the gays! Same story, owners that are GREEDY and do not care who comes in, as long as they spend a little money/. Why not metal detectors at all entrances, for staff and customers!

The Abbey is becoming less a gay bar and becoming an open free-for-all place for straights to show up.The guy with the gun probably was a drug dealer or gang member who thought they could show off on Abbey property. For the Abbey to turn into a place I would be uncertain about is troubling.

Thank gawd weho was able to get rid of some of the “defund the police” crowd, like Robert “I’m a millionaire landlord” Oliver, Lindsey “I’ve never heard of weho” Horvath, and others. It’s a start.

Yep! I feel a whole lot safer having the sheriff’s deputies nearby rather than block by block “security” ambassadors!
