Sepi Shyne will be WeHo’s next mayor; John Erickson will be mayor pro tem

Sepi Shyne was elected by her colleagues on City Council on Monday to be West Hollywood’s next mayor, while Councilmember John Erickson will take her current position as mayor pro tem.

Both of them will be installed at the next City Council meeting on Jan. 9.

Shyne and Erickson shook WeHo’s political establishment when they ran alongside each other in the 2020 municipal election, which for the first time was held during the general/presidential election in November. Riding a wave of support from labor unions and an energized progressive voting bloc, they ousted long-time Councilmembers John Duran and John Heilman, who just last month won his seat back.

The positions of mayor and mayor pro tem last for one year and are awarded on an informal rotation schedule so that each of the five Councilmembers get to serve as both during their four-year terms. They are largely ceremonial, with few additional powers but considerable more prestige.

While Erickson is likely to run for re-election in 2024, Shyne may have her sights set elsewhere. She is rumored to be exploring a run for the congressional seat held by Adam Schiff, who in turn wants to fill Dianne Feinstein’s spot in the Senate.

Shyne dropped a hint about such ambitions Monday while congratulating John Heilman on his return to the dais.

“I’m excited to sit next to you,” she told him. “I don’t know for how long.”

Please note Shyne’s congratulations to Chelsea Byers as part of a 3 member female majority and having another lesbian on council. Who says this stuff? Isn’t this just mildly sexiest? Isn’t that what Shyne stated when castigating a public speaker recently accusing her of being a sexiest and misogynist? This seems unmistakably twisted.

John Erickson, comes unprepared for the position of council member let alone Mayor Pro Tem. As a misguided, adolescent with unrelated academic degrees his apparent personal problems restrict him from sensible deliberations about city affairs. Yes, he knows the protocols but doesn’t get the substance and continually seeks recognition through his ineffectual behavior.

Sepi Shyne running for higher office is hysterical. I hope she puts all of her efforts in that doomed-from-the-start effort. She has an astounding ego for such an ugly woman.

It’s virtually impossible to believe these people are “running” a city. Where did we go wrong folks?

The Weho clown show continues. But the head clowns are absolutly the clowns that voted for Shyne and Ericsson.

RISE UP and FORCE Septic Shyne OUT of office by demanding her immediate resignation or mass protest and unprecedented civil disobedience will bring this City to its knees.

You say that, but nothing happens. We’re the silent majority. We need to rally Annie-style for the next council meeting.

Self Serving Sepi Shyne using West Hollywood as a Stepping Stone for future political aspirations. At the CC Meeting she strategically utilized Iranian members of the Beverly Hills community to amplify her rallying cry about Iran’s recent activities. The President of the IAJF spoke quoting, of all people Thomas Jefferson in order to insinuate like minded character. No such thing! The IAJF has been a problematic blemish in West Hollywood for more than 12 years. Their nefarious activities actually resulted in the City being sued with a significant outcome for the adjacent property owner. Their activities continue with an equally… Read more »

If you saw the segment on Ch 5 news tonight about the high increase in serious & violent crime in West Hollywood, you should be very fearful of what’s in our future. This team of 2 – now 3 – are totally out of their element in trying to be “progressive” & get rid of law enforcement officers in favor of “goodwill ambassadors” to fight crime instead. We should be very worried & more proactive in resisting the mess they’re creating in our increasingly dangerous little city, The “progressive” team of 3 appears to be using public safety & “defunding… Read more »

Any reasonable WeHo resident would read the Captain’s crime report and put the elimination of two deputy spots on hold. But Sepi and John now have a third vote, so get ready for a bunch of loony ideas getting passed. It’s a shame.
