Willie McGinest: I ‘feel horrible’ for punching man, smashing bottle on his head at Delilah in WeHo

New England Patriots star Willie McGinest has reversed course and is now apologizing after his arrest last week on charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon.

“Things aren’t always how they seem at first glance. The Truth will prevail,” he wrote on Instagram immediately after he posted bail.

Witnesses identified the 51-year-old as being involved in an incident that took place on Dec. 9 at Delilah in West Hollywood.

As seen in video footage obtained by TMZ, McGinest punched a man sitting at a table multiple times in the face before thrashing with a bottle.

McGinest arrived at the West Hollywood Station last Monday and gave a statement around 7 a.m., after which he was taken into custody. He posted a $30,000 bond.

He has now released this very polished mea culpa:

“First and foremost, I want to offer my deepest apology for my lapse in judgment and behavior on December 9 at a restaurant in West Hollywood. To my family, community, friends, and youth I mentor, please know I feel horrible for my actions and take full responsibility. To my colleagues at the NFL Network and those I work closely with as an advisor to professional and community-base organizations, please know I am embarrassed and regret what occurred. Most of all, I am disappointed in myself, as I know this is an isolated incident and is not reflective of my faith, role as a father, life’s body of work, or the role model I’ve worked hard to become. It is personally devastating that decades of community service, youth engagement, mentoring, and professional development would become an afterthought in a single moment that should have never happened.”

The former linebacker has been suspended from his job as an analyst for the NFL, which issued this statement: “We are aware of the incident and the video, which is disturbing. Willie McGinest will not appear on NFL Network while we review the matter.”

He doesn’t feel bad for what he did. He didn’t write that. He initially said it wasn’t what it seemed and he was innocent. Then video proof emerges and he’s sorry…we all know he wouldn’t be taking responsibility of there wasn’t clear video evidence.

Wonder if the two on his crew that did most of the punching were “youth he mentored”

Poor Willie, a victim of his own lack of self control, bad judgement and poor character. A slick mea culpa likely written by his slick attorney. OUT, you excluded yourself.

👌👍You are absolutely right about hypocritical comments Outraged that people in the community react abs retaliate towards other people within the community as to showcasing their own deep biases and want to replace and erase others in this community but this incident and assault of a person and violence is tolerated. People can’t just be throwing punches and using their excuses and money to punch people in the face—last I checked Kanye West did that too to paparazzi often in Weho . That was a violent attack with fists and glass flying around. Who was concerned about the other patrons… Read more »

Call me old-fashioned, but we had a much more peaceful and fabulous time in West Hollywood when it was just Boys Town.

Finally, someone said it! Thank you

There is a whole new demographic here now who don’t know how to behave or be civil and I don’t know what it is that got them here.

It’s not WHAT you are it is WHO you are. Try to behave respectfully and give respect to all. Otherwise it will forever be us vs them.🙄🙄🙄

Yes. And those memories are awesome. I wish everybody nowadays could have the opportunity to experience West Hollywood when it was a beautiful Utopia, when you could happily and drunkenly walk down the street home from Rage at 2 a.m. without a fear or care in the world. Memories light the corners of my mind, misty watercolor memories.
