DEAR WEHO: Don’t let Heart stay open until 4 a.m.

On Tuesday, March 7, Heart WeHo Nightclub (8911 Santa Monica Blvd) is making a request to the Business Licensing Commission to extend their hours to 4am

If Heart is able to stay open to 4 AM then the other bars and clubs will follow suit and will request to stay open until 4am. That means crowds that have been drinking all night will now be hanging out until 4am and music will continue to blast until 4am. We receive constant complaints about sound bleed coming from the bars and clubs most nights. Up until a few years ago, we never heard the music from the clubs.

But now, with the addition of more clubs and the open facades, the music is traveling up into our residential streets. With the OutZones, many businesses have placed speakers on their exteriors and blast music to the sidewalk (something that they are not allowed to do but do it anyway and Code Compliance does not enforce). The music gets louder and louder as they compete with one another to try and draw customers into their establishments.

If you are against having the bars and clubs staying open to 4 AM please copy and paste the letter below and sent it to the following email address:  [email protected](all emails must be received by Tuesday, March 7 no later than 2pm)

Dear Business Licensing Commission, I am strongly opposed to Heart WeHo’s request to extend their hours until 4am. If they are allowed to extend their hours till 4 AM, other bars and clubs may follow suit and request the same. With fewer sheriffs, the last thing we need to do is extend the hours of bars and clubs another two hours to 4am. There are already constant issues with music levels, and people that are drunk that make noise.

Extending the hours even further will just mean a bigger negative impact on our quality of life. I ask you, please do NOT approve Heart Weho’s request to extend their hours. Please consider the people that live here over the people that come to party here. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Why on earth does a nightclub in WeHo need to be open until 4am? More hours for crunks to drink more, and then drive!

4 am bars aren’t good for anyone. Especially the people who stay until close. Trust me, I know from experience having partied and worked in bars in Chicago.

“Code Compliance” should rename itself “Department of Slavish Acquiescence to Whatever Business and Developers Want”. The amount of corruption in WeHo government is staggering.

As someone who doesn’t go out to bars often, I think it would be exciting to have the option to stay out until 4am like they do in European cities and other metropolitan areas. The nightlife in Weho has declined over the years due to the popularity of online dating and hookup apps, and the recent pandemic has made things worse for the local economy. Extending the hours for Heart WeHo and other bars in the area could help attract more visitors and tourists who are looking for a vibrant nightlife scene, which could ultimately generate more revenue for the… Read more »

I support after hours for all businesses who wish to adopt this business model.

Here’s how gentrification works:
1. Artists and minorities move into cheap property no one else wants
2. The area becomes interesting and fun because it’s full of art, food, and life
3. Karens move in to live out their “boho-chic” fantasies, then are *shocked* to discover that fun is noisy
4. Artists and minorities get priced out, NIMBYs force out the reasons why the area got popular to begin with
5. Bam, yet another boring residential zone full of Starbucks and Whole Foods. Cycle repeats.

This is cracking me up. Almost no Alpha level city in the world has clubs that close at 2am. By the way no study has ever shown that there are more muggers and pickpockets because the bar closed at 4a over 2a. Also the noise difference at 4a vs. 2a is negligible so I’m not sure why you think that 4a is randomly louder than 2a. West Hollywood has always been a nightlife hub. Nothing about this has changed. If you lived near Times Square and could see the lights at night and all of sudden hated it then you… Read more »

Actually there are numerous studies showing that bars & clubs staying open later does increase crime quite significantly including DUIs, serious vehicle accidents, and especially violent crimeNO I don’t think it’s a good idea that West Hollywood or anywhere else in the LA area seeks to become New Gotham.🦇

Those studies are not the same as this. In Weho we’re talking about places that are open until 4 BUT stop serving at 2. The study is measuring something different in Norway as the “normal” and “extended” closing hours there are different than in LA where they stop serving and then people can stay for until 4 but the bar is closed. Apples and oranges.

Pre Covid Rage and Micky’s stayed open until 4, no alcohol, only water could be served with music. What’s so bad about it now?

It’s just a bad idea. We already have enough problems with less sheriffs. Sorry that their business is not doing well but the community doesn’t need a club open until 4am.

I absolutely support them staying open. Our neighborhood is gone to hell. There are so many clothes businesses let’s get the revenue. We can get energy neighborhood party town get over yourself.
