Sheriff believes man jailed for allegedly drugging, raping woman had other victims

Authorities are on the lookout for further victims of a man who is accused of drugging, sexually assaulting, and trying to abduct a woman from The Abbey in West Hollywood.

Kent Omonicho Okukporo, 42, is believed to have drugged the woman’s drink at the N. Robertson Boulevard bar in February before assaulting her and attempting to coerce her to leave with him.

Although the woman was able to escape from the suspect, he fled the area before club security could apprehend him.

After identifying Okukporo as the suspect through surveillance footage from inside the bar, security personnel at The Abbey contacted the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, who detained the man upon his return to the club the next night. The female victim also identified Okukporo as the one who had drugged her drink, sexually assaulted her, and attempted to abduct her.

Investigations have led authorities to believe that Okukporo was actively seeking additional victims, prompting them to appeal to potential victims who may have information about the suspect.

They intend to present a case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Okukporo is described as being 5’11” tall and weighing around 180 pounds, with black hair and a beard, and brown eyes.

West Hollywood has long been a hotspot of spiked drugs and sexual assaults. West Hollywood resident Keely Fields, who herself was a victim, recently led the charge to provide bars in the city with Test My Drink strips.

I haven’t been to a club in many many years, but I remember back about 30 years or so ago, when some of the waiters at Ed Debevic’s took me to The Abby because Pudgy from Chicago was performing. She and I were old friends and I was looking forward to seeing her. However , the doorman said that I couldn’t come in, and his reason was that I was wearing open toed shoes! I was finally allowed to go in when one of my friends tipped him heavily. Oh, how things have changed!!! But that being said, please be… Read more »

Especially now with so many people lacing drugs with Fentanyl. It’s a far more dangerous time than the days of the roofie.

An example of the new breed of “Visitors & Tourists” the City is working hard to attract.

From all the articles I read about female bar customer drinks being spiked in the city of West Hollywood,I have not seen articles or statistics concerning male bar customer drinks being spiked.Does Wehoville or the sheriff’s department have any information on those encounters? I think there would be a temptation to disregard or overlook incidents regarding female customers.Male bar customers could say the spiked drinks problem is targeting females only and that they don’t have to worry about their drinks. This is definitely not a safe presumption. Glad they were able to apprehend this particular suspect.Hopefully, other customer victims will come forward… Read more »

Very good point. My drink was spiked at Here Bar many years ago (thankfully I was able to get out safely) and whenever I have shared this with friends over the years someone has either had the same experience or knows someone who did. Unfortunately, many of those instances led to much worse conclusions than mine and much more similar to what happened to the woman in this article. Predators are pathological opportunists and we all need to watch out for ourselves and each other. It is a relief to hear that the Abbey security was able to nail this… Read more »

Wow, The Abby certainly has changed since my days of hanging out there when it was a coffeehouse. It was like a gay utopia with nothing but gorgeous guys, awesome music, fun people, and you’d see celebrities all the time. I practically lived there it was so much fun. I feel bad for the modern generation of young gay people coming out of the closet nowadays because I don’t know what they could possibly do for fun, carefree, safe socializing. I thank God everyday that I’m an old gay man. I wouldn’t ask for anything else.

And this creature is already out crawling around looking for his next victim. Have to love California and low bail amounts.
