Many of West Hollywood’s commissioners and advisory boardmembers were caught off-guard this week after WEHOville reported that they had not re-applied for their positions, based on information from the City Clerk’s office. City Council is preparing to either re-appoint current members or fill the positions with new applicants at Monday’s meeting. City Hall published an updated list of those who have and have not re-applied; updates are marked with *asterisks* in the tables below.
Each directly appointed commissioner or advisory board member shall serve until February 28, 2025. Upon expiration of the term of office, each such member shall continue to serve until his/her successor is appointed and qualified.
A directly appointed commissioner or advisory boardmember serves at the pleasure of the appointing councilmember and may be removed by that councilmember at any time.
Commissioners and advisory board members who serve in at-large positions are appointed by the council as a whole and shall also serve until February 28, 2025.
Applications are received and vetted by the City Clerk’s Office. City Hall says the council’s move to consider direct and at-large appointments to various commissions and advisory boards is expected to bring in fresh ideas and new perspectives to the decision-making process. The move is also aimed at ensuring a more diverse and inclusive representation in the commissions and advisory boards. The council is expected to finalize the appointments in the coming weeks.

It appears that information was taken from the posted City Council Agenda, which reflects detail as of Tuesday, March 14, 2023 when the item was finalized to be published for the City Council Agenda on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
While the item presents a summary of applications and re-applications received at that point in time, it does not capture updated detail, nor does it capture the intent of prospective Advisory Board members and prospective Commissioners who may still be in the process of submitting applications and re-applications.
In addition, Monday, March 20, 2023 is not a final date nor deadline for prospective Advisory Board members and prospective Commissioners to submit applications. The City Clerk’s office will continue to collect applications and re-applications; details are provided on the City’s website at www.weho.org/city-government/boards-commissions.
Hopefully Adam Bass applicant for PC will not be chosen. Not only does he possess little knowledge, he exhibits an arbitrary and self serving attitude.

I’m sorry to see Larry David not reapplying for the Public Facilities Commission. I really enjoy his show and he was hilarious on the commission.

I did a double take on the commission lists and see that Sarah Adolphson, who ran for city council in the last election has applied for the Human Services Commission. She seems to be a sincere person to me due to her campaign materials and election debate performance.
I am still surprised Robert Oliver has decided to leave the Public Safety Commission.I suppose getting the heat from sitting on the commission was not helpful to him for any future run for office.I bet he will lay low for awhile and let any new commissioner in his old seat be yelled at instead.
Yes, the list probably is outdated because Melissa Crowder is on vacation. It won’t be updated until she comes back. indeed , in the update, it says that Robert Oliver has reapplied to be on the PSC. Other people have told me they also reapplied to boards etc., and yet there is a NO after their name.
No wonder the City Clerk’s office wasn’t functioning properly, another one of her able bodied assistants was absent and even their fax machine was not functioning to receive Public Documents requests.

It is a fact that many well qualified and highly respected professionals residing in WH and adjacent are not interested in the HPC and Planning Commission to which they could offer expertise and stability due to the dissipated governance of the City. Working with unqualified people is more than a task of service, it results in the fruitless effort of reinventing the wheel. People planted in positions lacking knowledge are not only difficult to motivate but often well entrenched. Candidates giving of their time and service have a reasonable expectation of being part of progress rather than participating in endless… Read more »
For too many people these boards and commissions are part of a game, often a parlor game of politics played in party clubs and endorsements. A true profile in political courage would be to appoint quality and qualified people who will do the people’s business rather than reward friends and party hacks. It’s all an incestuous cabal.
There have been quality and qualified people who have volunteered to be on boards and commissions. However, while they think they are there to advise the City Council, they quickly find out that most often, the City Council ignores their advice. They are also muzzled by staff who chooses what they want to prioritize each month. They also are not allowed to appear as a board or commission member in front of City Council, but only as a private citizen. And, they cannot discuss any city issues among themselves because of the Brown Act. So, being on a board or… Read more »
That would take folks of integrity and self respect that are secure in their own skin, not a striver. We need to revisit Marcus Aurelius and the Stoics for a start and then straighten up and fly right.

Stacey Jones knows how to run the Comission and is fair and reasonable. Gregoire is a former rent control commissioner and Attorney and plays fair too. I hope Meister can come up with someone who is reasonable and honest. Manny?
Stacy Jones is competent at running the meetings but ill informed about the subject matter and has a very deft way of appearing to be even handed but clearly is not.

Wow. Can’t believe that non of the Public Safety Commissioners is returning. Not even Steele? What happened?
That might be a good idea for the city to muzzle AJV, to keep her from popping up to speak on every item of the agenda or……maybe not as she could speak as a private citizen. Would be devastatingly interesting though on the path of West Hollywood’s suicide.
Would like to see all new people on the planning commission and the public safety commission. Hopefully a new batch that’ll be much better than the last!
The good news in this revision is we’ll still have a new Public Safety Commission. Hopefully one that isn’t worse.
The not so good news is that most of the old indecisive Planning Commissioners have reapplied. But there’s hope the at-larges might change.
Film at 11.
The applicant list for public safety, on a whole, is looking very worrying.

Robert Oliver is in a perfect position to swallow his mistakes in judgement and move forward continuing on the commission.
Some of Ms Adolphdon’s actions during the campaign Led me to find that she is not so “fair-haired.” More like Sister Golden Hair Suprise.
A reminder to applicants that the forms were updated two weeks ago and require re-application. Many of us are not on this list here. Please submit!
This list is completely outdated. Many people have reapplied and will be reappointed.

Tod Hallman displayed visible growth at the last meeting, it would be good if he would reconsider. Leaving the PSC rudderless is not favorable.
The info here is outdated
The good news is that Danny Roman can go back to his coloring books.
Annie Jump Vicente is currently running to City Hall to report for one or more of these openings. Can’t wait to see which one she’ll be on.

Spoiler Alert: All of the new public safety commissioners will be abolitionists.
Sepi and Erickson have really done a good job at messing up this city.
